How to Save Money on Holiday Activities at the Gaylord Texan

This year we decided to skip a year of doing our favorite holiday-themed activities in New York City in exchange for making our first trip to the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine near Dallas, Texas. For a few years I have seen magical-looking photos and videos of families enjoying the Gaylord’s indoor snow-tubing, two-million twinkling lights, snowball throwing, outdoor ice-skating, and their 9 degree multi-room ice sculpture exhibit. It looked amazing (and expensive), so if we were going to do it, it…

Enjoying the Gaylord Texan Resort for Less

Since my first daughter was born, most years we head to New York City in late November or early December to see the real Santa at Macy’s on 34th Street and partake in other holiday offerings such as ice skating in Bryant Park, seeing the over-the-top window displays, viewing the Rockefeller tree, watching the Rockettes, and visiting cousins from Connecticut. While the city is always a little nuts around the holidays, it is also a ton of fun for a…

Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Free Kid’s Club and Affordable Food Choices

In early October 2017, we visited the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar using Hyatt points and found it to be a new, beautiful, points-friendly, oceanside resort located in the Bahamas about 15 minutes from the airport in Nassau. My mom, my daughters, and I loved our long weekend there and have enjoyed sharing our experience in a number of posts and even a video linked below. In the final post in this series, we’ll talk about the Kid’s Club and look…

Review of the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Grand Club Lounge

On our first trip to the Bahamas a few years ago, we had some serious mealtime sticker shock. I know that most things cost more on an island and that in a tourist zone that is doubly true, but even factoring in both of those things, we still were astonished at both the cost of our meals at and around Atlantis, as well as the primarily mediocre quality of what we ate. I don’t mind paying more for good food,…

7 Things Families Should Know About Aloft Hotels

I just spent a night at the Aloft Dallas Downtown, and since the number of Aloft properties around the world is only increasing (and at a rapid rate), I thought this was a good time to highlight a few things that families should know about Aloft when deciding if it is the right type of hotel for them.   Aloft is Often a Good Value on Points The Aloft brand isn’t a perfect match for families as it was designed…

Review of the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Pools and Beach

If you are like most families, I have to imagine that a driving reason to go to the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in the Bahamas is to swim and enjoy the pools and the beach. This new hotel is located on a 3,000 foot stretch of white sand on Cable Beach. The water is the Bahamas Blue I’m sure you have at least seen on postcards, and on our early fall trip there was just the right amount of waves…

Best Hotel for an Astros Game is Westin Houston Downtown

My oldest daughter, my parents, and I spent Friday night rooting as hard as we could for the home team at Minute Maid Stadium in downtown Houston. The Houston Astros had left for New York days earlier up 2-0 in a best of 7 series against the Yankees, and they came home down in the series 3-2 and facing elimination after getting beat three nights straight in the Bronx. It was not pleasant watching them get spanked by the Yankees…

Inside Two Ocean View Rooms at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in the Bahamas

We spent a long weekend in October at the newly opened Grand Hyatt Baha Mar and had an absolutely fantastic time. The hotel and larger Baha Mar complex had many delays on its path to opening, and it may still have a couple kinks as it rolls towards a full opening, but there should be nothing holding you back at this point from enjoying everything it has to offer.   You can read more about our Bahamas miles and points fueled…

Video Sneak Peek Inside the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in the Bahamas

My daughters, my mom, and I recently visited the beautiful Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in the Bahamas and overall had an absolutely fantastic time. I already shared our Bahamas trip planning process but promised to delve into more details in subsequent posts.   I still have detailed posts coming soon on the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar rooms, amenities and activities, Club Lounge, food, pools, beach, and the process of heading to Atlantis for the day, however for those of you…

Review of Hyatt Place Midtown in NYC

On a recent trip to New York City we started off living the high life at the Park Hyatt New York just two blocks from Central Park, enjoying including Globalist room service breakfast, swimming in the luxurious indoor pool, and spending 30,000 Hyatt points per night for that privilege. That was obviously a fantastic experience, but since the junior suite only had one real bed, despite its opulence, it really wasn’t the perfect spot for the three of us, especially sine…
