Limited Time: Earn 3 Award Nights With One Card Bonus

I’ve started to hear more and more about folks considering giving up on their hotel rewards credit cards, which I personally think is often a mistake, especially if the card comes with an annual night worth more than the annual fee. However, of course everyone has to do the math for themselves and naturally some cards are better than others. I completely understand that after the first year, the math to keep the card gets harder to justify than it…

Review of the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort

Of all the places we have ever been, my favorite destination is still Hawaii, so when I recently had the chance to head there, even for just a night, I was all-in. This particular night was spent in Waikiki, which may not be my #1 spot in all of Hawaii, but I found plenty of great things to do and eat in the Waikiki area during my 24 hours in paradise. One of the harder decisions for this one night…

How to Save Money on Holiday Activities at the Gaylord Texan

This year we decided to skip a year of doing our favorite holiday-themed activities in New York City in exchange for making our first trip to the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine near Dallas, Texas. For a few years I have seen magical-looking photos and videos of families enjoying the Gaylord’s indoor snow-tubing, two-million twinkling lights, snowball throwing, outdoor ice-skating, and their 9 degree multi-room ice sculpture exhibit. It looked amazing (and expensive), so if we were going to do it, it…

Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Free Kid’s Club and Affordable Food Choices

In early October 2017, we visited the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar using Hyatt points and found it to be a new, beautiful, points-friendly, oceanside resort located in the Bahamas about 15 minutes from the airport in Nassau. My mom, my daughters, and I loved our long weekend there and have enjoyed sharing our experience in a number of posts and even a video linked below. In the final post in this series, we’ll talk about the Kid’s Club and look…

Best Hotel for the World Series is Now Available on Points!

The Houston Astros head back to their home turf to play Games 3, 4, and (Lord willing) 5 of the 2017 World Series this weekend, and the best hotel to stay at when heading to an Astros game is absolutely the Westin Houston Downtown.   However, while the hotel would be perfect for those heading to the World Series in Houston, rooms for the nights of those games are selling for $899+ per night and points rooms were blacked out…

New Hyatt Place Open in NYC for Just 8,000 Points!

It is not breaking news that NYC is an expensive place whether you are visiting or you actually live there. I’ve done both, and both require creativity to pull off without spending some insane cash. Obviously, an easy way to save cash when you visit New York City is to use hotel points, though even that strategy isn’t without hurdles as the hotels in NYC can require a pretty hefty number of points. One exception can be the Wyndham Rewards properties since all…

Inside Two Ocean View Rooms at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in the Bahamas

We spent a long weekend in October at the newly opened Grand Hyatt Baha Mar and had an absolutely fantastic time. The hotel and larger Baha Mar complex had many delays on its path to opening, and it may still have a couple kinks as it rolls towards a full opening, but there should be nothing holding you back at this point from enjoying everything it has to offer.   You can read more about our Bahamas miles and points fueled…

Hotel Sleeping Arrangements With a Family of Four

One of the most important things to me whether we are at home or on the road is sleep. I don’t know if it is because I never really recovered from having two very poorly sleeping infants where I almost lost my mind from sleep deprivation, or whether I was just born this way, but a good chunk of my decisions revolves around getting enough sleep. I’ve missed out on numerous fun nighttime outings that were passed my bedtime, left…

Points Friendly Hotels Still Closed Due to Hurricane Irma

It’s pretty common for airline websites to have a travel waiver or travel advisory of some sort up for at least an airport or two around the world at any given time. However, I have never seen anything like you will find on most US airline websites right now. There isn’t one advisory/waiver, there are tons and tons of them with different city groupings and valid dates and terms, largely because of all of the damage that tropical systems have done…

How to Detect Bed Bugs for About $11

I don’t write very frequently about my various travel related fears largely because I don’t usually let those fears stop me from just using common sense and pressing forward, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t have them. Not only do I get nervous on planes from time to time, but I occasionally worry about inadvertently bringing home bed bugs from hotels we visit along the way. I am extremely sensitive to bug bites of all shapes and sizes, so…
