Video Review of Andaz Papagayo in Costa Rica

As you may have seen, in the last few months I’ve been trying to get my feet wet in the world of creating video reviews for some of our trips. I think video has tons of potential in this space, but it certainly is much more complicated and time intensive than just writing blog posts, so I’m keeping the number of videos I make to no more than about one or two a month for now. That said, I just finished a…

Free Kid’s Club at the Andaz Papagayo in Costa Rica

For me, the best type of vacation is often one that provides a nice mix of both family time and adult time. Adults-only trips are great on occasion and trips that are nothing but family time 24/7 can also be great, but after a few days of either extreme you can yearn for a little bit of balance. Whether you accomplish this balance by bringing grandparents, a nanny or babysitter from home, using a resort kid’s club, or hiring a local…

First Impressions of the Andaz Papagayo in Costa Rica

One of the very best values in the World of Hyatt award chart is undeniably the Andaz Papagayo in Costa Rica. This property is a Category 4 Hyatt, which means you can use your Category 1-4 certificates or just 15,000 Hyatt points per night to stay at a resort that otherwise can easily run you $300 – $400 per night during peak seasons. It has been on my ‘must visit’ list of properties since it opened in 2013, but we have…

Today Only: Buy Hyatt Points for Just Over a Penny Each

Today is the final day of this year’s Daily Getaways offering, and it brings a really cool offering in the form of Hyatt points you can purchase from just over a penny each. I routinely redeem Hyatt points for close to 2 cents each, so I would be happy to snag one of these packages, but the problem with this deal is there aren’t nearly enough packages to go around to meet demand. This means if you want a shot,…

Today is the day, the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is officially open for business and you can book yourself a room on cash, points, or a mix of cash and points for stays as early as tonight! The much delayed large complex has been in a soft open phase for the last few weeks, but that portion of the opening phase has now concluded ahead of schedule, and the property is open for you to come and visit. The hotel was…

Stay in the Shadow of Manhattan at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City

As I’m sure you know, New York City is an expensive place to visit…or live for that matter. It is also one of the most exciting and vibrant places in the United States, so it is no surprise that it is where lots of folks want to visit, self included. There are over 100,000 hotel rooms in New York City, but those rooms can be pretty pricey with the average daily rate at $268+ a night and likely rising. This means…

Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Available on Hyatt Points!

Update: While the property now displays 15,000 points online it doesn’t seem to actually be bookable…still, yet, who knows. Will keep updating when I know more! Update #2: The property is bookable on Hyatt points, but it is charging 20,000 points per night instead of the displayed 15,000. Hyatt thus far has been honoring the 15k rate by depositing 5,000 points per night booked back into your account when requested. I suspect they will fix the glitch and display it…

Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is Now Accepting Reservations!

Today is a big day for Bahamas fans as the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is set to open tonight for a ‘preview’ period that runs through May 29th, and they are also now accepting paid reservations for stays beginning May 29th and onward! The property is listed as a Category 5 Hyatt which means it will be 20,000 points per night for award nights. Given how incredibly high taxes/fees can be on stays in The Bahamas, that may be an even better…

Getting $350+ in Value from Hyatt Category 1-4 Free Night

Obviously I wish that all my rewards credit cards came with no annual fee into perpetuity, but that simply isn’t the case. Some of them have no fee the first year, and a couple of my favorites do have no annual fees on an ongoing basis, but most have an annual fee that varies from about $75 a year to around $500 per year. There is no one-size-fits-all answer about whether an annual fee is worth it or not as…
