Bad News for United Flyers Who Like to Earn Miles on Cheap Flights

For a couple of years, it has made a lot of sense for some travelers to credit inexpensive and lower United fare classes to Singapore Airlines instead of United MileagePlus in order to earn 100% of the miles flown instead of the 5 redeemable miles per dollar spent on the base fare that United awards non-elites. When we flew to Europe on cheaper United fares a little while back we had the choice of earning a few hundred redeemable miles from United…

Fly to Hawaii and More for Fewer Miles With New Award Chart!

It was recently announced that Singapore Airlines and Alaska Airlines were becoming partners. This means that, among other things, you will be able to use Alaska miles to fly Singapore Airlines operated flights and Singapore Airlines miles to fly Alaska operated flights. More options redemption are always good, but what really matters are the award charts prices and we can take a look at the just released Singapore Airlines award chart for Alaska Airlines operated flights. This is super relevant…

Get 500 Free Miles from Joining Singapore Airlines!

Earlier this week a few changes related to using Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles kicked in. Namely, these changes included sadly discontinuing the 15% online award booking discount, eliminating fuel surcharges on Singapore and Silkair redemptions, and the mileage redemption rates of many Singapore awards went up. The Star Alliance award chart was thankfully not impacted by these changes.   Get 500 Free Miles from Singapore Airlines While I was playing around with the Singapore website today to see these changes in action, I…

Best Airline Award for Lie-Flat Seats to Europe From the Middle of the US

It has been a little while now since I have taken a truly fun flight where I was looking forward to the actual flight in addition to the destination, but hopefully later in 2017 that will change. I am very much hoping to get to Europe (without kids) late in 2017, and I want to have a little fun getting there. For me this means flying in a premium cabin, and while it doesn’t have to be as premium as Lufthansa First…

Save 30 Percent on Some Singapore Airlines Award Flights

If you book award flights online using your Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles by November 16, 2016, you can save 30% (instead of the usual 15% online booking discount) for select Singapore Airlines or SilkAir operated flights for travel between February 6 – May 31, 2017. As an example, instead of the listed price of 37,500 miles Singapore wants to fly you all the way from Houston – Singapore (connecting in Manchester) in economy, you can do it for just 26,500 miles…

Awesome New Flight Coming to Houston!

One of the more interesting flights that currently operates out of Houston is the Singapore Airlines flight that goes from Houston to Moscow to Singapore. I’m sure that the Houston – Moscow segment is very useful or even fun for some travelers, but it is being replaced with something a little more interesting to me personally…a Singapore flight from Houston to Manchester, England! For those not super familiar with UK geography, Manchester is located roughly halfway between London and Edinburgh. I’d like…

Fly Singapore Airlines for 50% Fewer Miles on Some Routes!

Via a traditional airline saver award you can often fly in economy within the United States on exciting routes like Houston to Kansas City for 12,500 miles each way.  Logic then would dictate that if you wanted to fly from say Houston to Singapore it would cost many times that amount, and often your logic would be correct. However, right now you can fly from Houston to Singapore on Singapore Airlines for just 6,250 miles more than you can fly…

Review of EVA and Singapore Business Class Flights

Our around-the-world trip last year to celebrate Josh’s 40th birthday was pretty incredible.  Heck, it is incredible that we were even able to consider doing something like that, let alone actually getting to go on that big of an adventure in such incredible comfort.  It wasn’t a “free” trip by any stretch, but it was a trip that was made doable thanks to miles and points.  I don’t have any idea when we will take a trip that long, that…

How Long Does it Take for Ultimate Reward Points to Transfer to Singapore Airlines?

Just a couple of days ago the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program became a transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards via the Chase cards listed below.  This is a very awesome addition to the Ultimate Rewards “family”, even if you never step foot on a Singapore Airlines plane or travel anywhere remotely close to Singapore.  You can use Singapore Airlines miles to book flights operated by their partners, like United, and take advantage of instances where the Singapore award chart might…

5 Reasons the New Ultimate Rewards Airline Transfer Partner is Great!

One of my very favorite types of points, Chase Ultimate Rewards, just became an even bigger favorite of mine thanks to the addition of a new airline transfer option!  Yesterday Ultimate Rewards added Singapore Airlines to the their airline transfer options of United, British Airways, Korean Air, Virgin Atlantic and Southwest Airlines. Don’t assume this isn’t relevant to you just because you aren’t planning a trip to Singapore or otherwise don’t have plans to fly on Singapore Airlines.  This is…
