The Astros Bring Smiles to Houston…and Even to a Yankee

I have a hard time keeping up with 162 regular season baseball games, but once the postseason hits, it is literally a whole new ballgame. Going to a regular season baseball game is fun, but it is often a laid back type of fun. Going to a big postseason baseball game is a participatory sport where the fans in the stands are an influential element of the game. Home field advantage can be a very real thing and my oldest daughter, parents,…

Best Hotel for the World Series is Now Available on Points!

The Houston Astros head back to their home turf to play Games 3, 4, and (Lord willing) 5 of the 2017 World Series this weekend, and the best hotel to stay at when heading to an Astros game is absolutely the Westin Houston Downtown.   However, while the hotel would be perfect for those heading to the World Series in Houston, rooms for the nights of those games are selling for $899+ per night and points rooms were blacked out…

Best Hotel for an Astros Game is Westin Houston Downtown

My oldest daughter, my parents, and I spent Friday night rooting as hard as we could for the home team at Minute Maid Stadium in downtown Houston. The Houston Astros had left for New York days earlier up 2-0 in a best of 7 series against the Yankees, and they came home down in the series 3-2 and facing elimination after getting beat three nights straight in the Bronx. It was not pleasant watching them get spanked by the Yankees…

Good, Bad, and Strange News for World Series Tickets Using Points

Starwood has updated their SPG Moments offerings this morning with some World Series ticket packages, and I have related good news, bad news, and sort of strange news.   Good News First, the good news is that there are many MLB World Series packages now available ranging from a pair of tickets to one of the World Series games to even throwing out the ceremonial first pitch in games 4 or 7. Remember when Dan’s Deals won that auction last year…

Act Fast: Use Miles or Points to See the Baseball Championship Series Games

Well sports fans, it looks like our hometown Houston Astros will be taking on the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series beginning tomorrow. I think there is also a National League Championship Series that is probably also going on, but let’s focus on what really matters…the Astros. Seriously though, we are pretty excited around here and I’m sure at least a handful of Yankee folks are excited, too.   If you don’t want to shell out the…

MLB Playoff Games From 5,000 Points Each With SPG Moments!

I recently shared that you could use your SPG points to score post-season MLB tickets, but the tough part of that offering was the points price per ticket pair was on the high side. For the current play-off round, the League Division Series, a pair of tickets was going for 35,000 SPG points. However, when I checked back today, they were now as low as 10,000 SPG points for a pair of play-off tickets! At that price, that is just…

Use Your SPG Points to Attend MLB Postseason Games!

Great news for MLB fans who have a team heading into the postseason as the SPG Moments program now has postseason MLB ticket packages available using your SPG points all the way from the Wild Card Games to the League Championship games. The World Series packages aren’t yet live, but they will eventually have those, too. Note that most of these offerings are fixed price packages for a pair of tickets, while a few VIP experiences are auctions. Also note…

40,000 Free Alaska Airlines 2 for 1 Discounts Available at Giants Game on Sunday!

It was recently announced that Alaska Airlines will be the official airline of the San Francisco Giants for at least the next seven years, extending the partnership that Virgin America started in 2008. To celebrate they are not only going to fancy up an Airbus 321 with the Giants logo and team colors, have some joint Giants and Alaska Airlines offers, and launch a seasonal 2x daily flight from San Fransisco – Phoenix so that Giants fans can attend Spring Training…

New SPG Hotel Opening in South Bend – Go Irish!

I know that hurricanes are rightfully dominating our thoughts and TVs, but in case you haven’t yet noticed, it’s also football season. I saw a few minutes of the Notre Dame game on TV last night and remembered how much fun we had heading to South Bend for a home game weekend several years ago. We went when my oldest daughter was still a baby, so she didn’t make that trip, but she will be almost nine by the time…

Use SPG Points Now to Attend the US Open

The US Open tennis tournament in NYC each year is a widely popular event, and thankfully in each of the recent years Starwood Preferred Guest has provided opportunities for their members and cardholders to access not only tickets but some cool US Open experiences. These offerings are now up on the SPG Moments page, but be aware that these are generally very popular packages that sell out quickly. In other words, run, don’t walk if you want to have your pick…
