What Do You Mean You Don’t Want to Go to Venice?

Over the weekend American Airlines loaded some new seasonal routes from the US to Europe in their system for travel next summer. When they did this there was very temporarily a plethora of business class award space available for multiple people on the same flights. This. Doesn’t. Happen. Often. I not only wrote about it, but put a flight for ourselves on hold for next summer from Dallas – Chicago – Venice. I couldn’t easily make it work all the…

Earning Miles and Points With a Non- Points Oriented Partner

Like many of you, I have a spouse who isn’t as enthusiastic about the miles and points game as I am.  I’m totally okay with that because when I met him back in 2006, he hadn’t even flown in years thanks to panic attacks on planes, so we’ve come a long, long way from not getting on a plane to circling the globe recently for his 40th birthday. We took baby steps to get him where he is now by…

The Best Father’s Day Gift

Happy Father’s Day to all you dads, grandpas, and father figures out there.  Being a good dad is one of the toughest and most important jobs out there, and we all appreciate every one of your piggy back rides, daddy/daughter doughnut dates, baseball practices, and more.  We couldn’t do it without you, and to celebrate I wanted to offer a bit of inspiration for those who are trying to figure out how to do something really special for dad. Not…

Using Miles to Get to the Maldives

If I’m being honest, I’m not sure I had even heard of the Maldives before my delve into the world of miles and points.  I’m sure that is utterly ignorant, or at least super uncool to admit, but hey it’s the truth.  However, I had absolutely heard of over water villas, as had my husband.  We certainly didn’t imagine we would ever stay in one, but we sure as heck knew what they were.  Enter my husband’s 40th birthday planning. …

The Ten Phases of a Whirlwind Birthday Trip

My newly minted 39-year-old husband and I headed to Chicago for a night this weekend to celebrate his “Countdown to 40″ birthday (in other words, he turned 39). This whole idea sprouted from seeing that SPG was offering luxury box suite tickets with food and drinks to Chicago Cubs games for just 7,500 points for two tickets. This is an amazing deal, and I couldn’t pass up the chance to see a game at Wrigley and celebrate my husband’s birthday.…

Digital Tender

— Another post from The Man I was born just prior to the end of the paper currency era. Although I still carry cash for those transactions that are simply easier to conduct in such a manner, the vast majority of all of my financial negotiations are merely the electronic handshake of data that determines the flow of wealth from one bucket to another. This is not just at the point of sale; I protect and stabilize the movement of…

Little C is Asleep, I’m Finishing Work for the Week, MP in DC. Oh. And Winners!

Another Post from The Man–   Often when Mommy Points is out of town for work, I get the breathtaking opportunity to spend quality time with my daughter.  It may seem patronizingly cliche, but every moment she and I spend together, just my child and I, is a blessing.  No matter how miserable of a day I’ve had, if we get to play and laugh together, it improves.  MP left for DC yesterday, just after I brought C to school…

Best. Birthday. Ever. Part II

Another post from The Man — (Read Part I of this Birthday Adventure here) MP really outdid herself.  How to plan an event that provides entertainment for a two-year-old, the Senior Set, and the man of the hour?  When we got to the suite, there was a light mode of streamers and other sundry decorations to complement Tow Mater and his balloon brigade. MP had opted for the amenity for the Hyatt Diamond award (something I am sworn never to…

Best. Birthday. Ever.

Another post from The Man –   When you fly the sardine can back from Atlanta to Houston, you’re at times routed through the Gulf for an eastward landing.  It’s amazing how calm the sea looks from fifteen thousand feet, but I know there were 8 to 10 foot swells coming in.  I’d just finished an intense cloud security training session, and my brain was voraciously consuming the allotted 7% I was able to retain.  The test for certification is…

The Man on Game Tripping, Or, Patience Could Land You $100 Toward Travel!

Another post from The Man:   Given that it’s been a while since I’ve posted directly on Mommy Points, my wife gave me a half-smile and a devilish look just before supper and said, “I know what you could post about tonight…” which was met with a dubious stare and my best stoic air.  The fact that you’re reading this is strong indication of who succeeded.  “…now that the Chiefs games are published you can post about traveling to see…
