Lots of Additional United Flights to Ski Towns Loaded

United has recently beefed up their winter flight offerings to ski-towns in the Western United States, so if you don’t yet have your award (or paid) flights booked for your family’s winter ski trip, today is a good day to check availability. Some of the flights are offered year-round, but many of the flights to smaller ski towns such as Telluride, Jackson Hole, Steamboat Springs, Idaho Falls, Glacier Park and Big Sky operate only from late December to late March.…

Tips for Booking Business Class Awards to Europe for Summer 2018

If you are working with a relatively fixed schedule, getting multiple business class seats from the United States to Europe during the summer probably isn’t the easiest thing you will ever do. This is especially true if you are starting from a smaller US city and aiming to eventually arrive in a specific smaller spot in Europe. Unicorns exist, lighting strikes, and once in a blue moon the stars align to give you exactly what you want on a saver…

Limited Time: Get a 100% Bonus on Purchased United Miles

Buying miles and points is never as good as getting them ‘for free’ or just earning them as you go about your daily life, but it can still sometimes be a good idea. It can be a good option to consider if you just need a few more to get you to that award booking you want, or you do the math and determine that buying the miles is actually cheaper than outright buying a ticket with cash. With that in mind, United…

Earn 3,000 Bonus United Miles for Back to School Shopping!

I know it is still mid-July, but at least here in the South it is also already Back to School shopping time since school starts back up in just a couple of weeks. Whether you have little ones lacing up their sneakers for preschool, or older ones loading up on rugs and comforters for college, or maybe you just need some new items for yourself, you can take advantage of the avalanche of Back to School mileage bonuses that I…

One Week: Earn Up To 20x United Miles Per Dollar

While I agree wholeheartedly with the concept of not buying something just to earn bonus miles (99% of the time), I also agree with timing purchases with increased mileage payouts whenever possible. Today the stars aligned to time one of my purchases with earning lots of United miles, and maybe it will work that way for you as well. I have been running low on some of my favorites from L’Occitane, but just hadn’t gotten around to pulling the trigger on…

Fly Houston – New York for Just $60 on United!

An airline route I keep a close eye on is Houston – New York City, and right now United is offering tickets about as cheap as they ever get starting at $60 one-way for flights beginning later this summer and stretching all the way into mid-February! To avoid Basic Economy you have to spend $80 (or a little less if you are eligible for this discount), but even that is still a very good price for that market. I’m not seeing…

Things to Know About the Coming United Award Chart Changes

Back in 2014 we experienced a pretty massive United devaluation that brought one-way partner first class awards to Europe from 67,500 miles to 110,000 miles, partner first class awards to Australia/New Zealand jumped from 80,000 to 130,000 miles, and even economy United operated saver awards to Alaska went from 12,500 miles each way to 17,500 miles. There were plenty of other changes too, but it was a really big devaluation, especially for those who like to fly up front on partner…

Look Inside New United Club in Houston Terminal C

In recent years traditional US based airline lounges had gotten a bit….stale. The hip cousin on the scene was the Amex Centurion Lounge that had nicer seating, a more updated design, better complimentary food and drinks, and frankly was a much more preferable spot to hang out between flights than a stuffy old non-renovated airline lounge with its chex mix, water, and old chairs that literally had holes in them because they were so past their prime. However, as folks figured this…

The Day My Baby Earned Her First Miles

I’m not good at tracking and logging the flights we have taken, so I can’t tell you for sure how many flights my 23-month-old tiny traveler has taken. If I had to guess I would say 30-ish, but what I can tell you with absolute certainty was that her most recent flight over the weekend from Houston to Boston was the first one where she earned flown miles. This was not the original plan, and in fact it wasn’t the plan…

Get United Elite Status Faster Via an Elite Status Match

My husband’s travel schedule has recently ramped way, way up and he now finds himself on the road and in the skies far more than me. This is a new reality for our family in many ways, but one very pragmatic issue that we quickly faced was his lack of elite status. Not having elite status isn’t a big deal 98% of the time, especially for leisure travelers who travel once or twice a year, or for those who often…
