Huge Southwest Fare Sale!

Sometimes fares are so cheap that points are too valuable to use – now is one of those times on Southwest! They are celebrating their 40th anniversary by having $40/$80/$120 sale. What this means is that all flights 450 miles and under (think Los Angeles to Las Vegas or Newark to Boston) are $40 each way. Flights 451-1250 miles are $80 each way (think Houston to Las Vegas or Chicago to Orlando) and flights over 1251 miles (think San Diego to Nashville or New Orleans to Seattle) are $120 each way.

The dates you can travel are August 23 – November 16. It also excludes flying on Friday and Sunday (and a couple of other peak travel days), so plan accordingly. As of this morning there were many flight options on the routes I checked, but I am sure the choices will lessen as the sale goes on. I am trying to decide whether to pull the trigger on a $160 round-trip flight to Vegas – seems like a no-brainer, but I am still mulling it over as Southwest doesn’t fly out of the airport that is closer to my house (I know, picky, picky). At rates that low it doesn’t make sense to try to use frequent flier miles to get there……unless of course your points are Southwest points. The amount of points that are required for the flight are tied to the price of the flight, so that would actually be a good use of points. I talk extensively about their point system in this post.

This fare sale only lasts until June 23rd at 11:59PM, so don’t delay if you are interested in getting in on the cheap flying action! You are now free to move about the country. 🙂
