Off to Chicago, Montreal, and Denver on the StarMegaDo3!

My bag is packed, passport located, and I am ready for take-off.  In a couple of hours I will be flying to Chicago to meet up with 100+ other frequent flyer junkies for four days of airplanes, airports, baseball games, eating, and drinking fun on the StarMegaDo3 (SMD3).  Please don’t ask me what the name means…I only sorta kinda almost know.

Some of the things they have planned for us are: a reception at the Park Hyatt in Chicago tonight, behind the scenes tour of O’Hare airport on Thursday, followed by a chartered flight to Montreal.  In Montreal we will be staying at the Hyatt Regency Montreal, attending an event put on by Air Canada at the Le Westin Montreal, and going on a Bombardier tour.

Friday afternoon, the chartered flight will head to Denver.  Party flight!  There are many different events people are attending on Saturday in Denver including: time in a simulator at the United training center, tour of a National Guard base and F16s, tour of Denver International Airport and the control tower, pub crawl with some United pilots. and many different tours and programs at the Hyatt Regency Denver.  I will be checking out a Colorado Rockies baseball game with a few United pilots, some of the organizers of the SMD3, and 20 others who donated to the Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund (Dahl was the pilot of United 93 on 9/11 and a fantastic scholarship fund has been set-up in his honor) in exchange for the tickets to the Rockies game.  Root, root, root for the home team!

This is my first event of this nature, but these sort of events have a reputation of being fun, exhausting, and full of surprises.  Can’t wait!  I am also looking forward to meeting quite a few people that I have met online in the miles and points community.  It will be great to put real faces with screen names and avatars.  Though I will miss Little C and The Man tremendously while I am gone – time to use Skype for the first time.

If you are kicking yourself for not going, fear not.  There is a OneWorldDo in the works for January (with a launch party in LA in October) and a SMD4 in the works for later next year.  I’m not sure if I will be able to afford to attend both of those events, but I am certain that they will be a blast for anyone who is able to attend!

I will keep you all updated on this awesome event as much as possible from the road, and will do a full report on the various hotels and events after I return.  Like Mommy Points on Facebook for the most up-to-date info from the road.  Safe travels to everyone on the SMD3.

PS, I am a complete liar.  My bag is actually totally empty, there is laundry all over the house, and I have 8 million things to do in the next hour in order to be ready to go…..but that is just how I roll.  🙂

  1. The travel abstract, hopefully you can make it next time. I look forward to seeing Montreal tonight.

DJ, coach seats were $750 for the charter flight from Chicago to Montreal to Denver. That also includes your main events. First class and “Tommy class” seat prices went up from there. I have not heard of a SkyTeam partnered event.

  2. “pub crawl with some United pilots” – It would probably be good if this turned out to be a bust ’cause the pilots don’t drink or don’t know where all of the good bars are! 😉

  3. There were rumors about at DL MegaDO at the Chicago Park Hyatt reception last night. Can’t say from whom, but I consider him in the loop.
