Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow, 12/31, is the deadline for the current US Airways promo that awards a 100% bonus on miles purchased – up to a 40,000 mile maximum.  That means if you purchase 40,000 miles at $1,400.00 – you will end up receiving 80,000 miles for $1400.00 (plus some taxes and fees).  For many people, this is not a very good value.  However, if you plan to redeem your miles for an international business or first class flight, then it can be a very good value as it is much less expensive than purchasing an international first or business class ticket outright.  However, that would be the only time that I would consider buying miles at this rate – even with a 100% bonus.

Here are some the the down and dirty details:

Offer available for purchases made between December 1 and 31, 2011, 11:59 MT. All purchases are non-refundable. Bonus miles will be awarded upon completion of the transaction. The maximum number of Buy Bonus miles that can be received by one member for this offer is 40,000 bonus miles. All miles purchased beyond this limit will not be eligible for a bonus. Offer is subject to change. Offer cannot be combined with any other offer. Share transactions are not eligible for bonus. Only purchases made online are eligible for the bonus.

Miles are sold for $0.035 per mile plus a tax recovery charge of 7.5%. GST/HST will be charged to Canadian residents. Miles purchased through Buy, Share or Gift Miles do not count towards Dividend Miles Preferred status. All other Dividend Miles Terms and Conditions apply. Miles may be used based on award availability at the time of booking. Please note that Dividend Miles accounts less than 12 days old are not permitted to Buy, Share or Gift Miles. All purchases are non-refundable.

  1. Hi Mommypoints,
I actually took advantage of the offer. Its not as good as the delta 100% transfer bonus but this served its purpose.
My parents were going to be flying to visit me and my wife here in the US from India. Me and my wife each and around 55000 miles already (40K miles from US airways MC + 15000 miles from Grand slam promo)
Me and my wife both bought 40K miles which resulted in 80K miles. Cost for each of us = 1505$ after taxes.

Redeemed 2 round trip Business class tickets as a gift to my parents for a total of 2 x 120K miles + 280$ taxes total.

    Me very happy. 🙂
