Valentine’s Day Point Bonuses Starting to Come Out

Can you believe that Valentine’s Day is only three weeks away?  I know I was a bit shocked when I started getting emails today alerting me to the fact that I only have three weeks left to order flowers for Valentine’s Day.  Ha ha.  Admittedly this “holiday” isn’t usually one that is marked by much fanfare in my family, but with C being little we will probably make some Valentine’s cards for her friends at school.  However, the real point of this post is to make sure that you keep an eye out for the big miles and points bonuses that often are attached to buying flowers through shopping portals this time of year.

As I mentioned, I got my first such email today from Delta SkyMiles.  They are offering 40 miles per dollar spent at 1-800-Flowers and 1-800-Baskets.  You can click here to take advantage of this deal or you can call and use code 52DE.

After a brief search, it appears that Delta currently has the highest offer, but since I know not everyone places a high value on SkyMiles, here are a few other current options:

  • American Express Membership Rewards: 10x for 1-800-Flowers and FTD
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards: 15x for ProFlowers, 15X for KaBloom, 15X for 1-800-Flowers, and 10x for FTD
  • United MileagePlus Shopping: 30x for FTD, 7x for KaBloom
  • AAdvantage eShopping: 15x for FTD, 10x for Teleflora, and 9x for ProFlowers
  • Southwest Rapid Rewards Shopping: 10x for Kabloom, 7x for TeleFlora
  • Citi ThankYou: 15x Kabloom, 10x for ProFlowers

That is by no means an all-inclusive list, but it should give you an idea of what is currently available.  You can also use a site like to compare different offers for any particular retailer.  If I were to order today I would probably do the United MileagePlus 30x FTD offer myself, but my real advice is to hold off if you can.  I bet that more offers will come out as we get closer to February 14th.  Flowers are traditionally one of the highest miles/points per dollar purchases you can make through these portals (which certainly tells  you something about the mark-up on flowers).  Be careful to not pay more for your flowers just for the sake of earning miles and points.  Sometimes you can’t get access to the best prices if you are earning miles.  At 40x per dollar, it may be worth it, but do the math to be sure.

If you are going to surprise someone with flowers, you might as well surprise your miles and points account with a little boost in the process.  😉  We very well may buy some flowers for our Little Bug this year for Valentine’s Day.  If we do, you can bet that we will be shopping around for a portal that gives us as many miles as possible for that purchase!

  1. Thanks for the reminder! Also note that usually points are not awarded for delivery charges which are usually as much as half of the total cost. So 40x becomes more like 20x. It’s still better than nothing!

  2. Has anyone received the Southwest points from that day (Cyber Monday?) when the Mall offered 8x? I bought Sears gift cards and am sure I followed the rules. Thanks.

  3. evreward is a bit slow to update the offers. FWIW — Groupon has not showed up at UR for the past few days, but coming up at 12x on Delta’s skymileshopping.

  4. @Frequent Miler, very true. At least one of these said no deliver or shipping fees, but I can’t remember which one now.

@The Deal Mommy, ha ha. The Grand Slam got me hooked on some interesting companies, too!

@toomanybooks, I still keep meaning to try the RR mall, but I haven’t yet. Keep me posted!

@Raj B, that is true. I like to manually check the different malls myself, but evreward can be handy if you don’t have the time or desire to check each one individually. I have seen Groupon come off of the UR mall before, but then it (thankfully) came back.

  5. I am new to this “game” and used the swair portal around xmas and haven’t seen any points yet. And lost promised points for a laquinta hotel stay. They promised 750pts and I got 600. Do we have to bug then and fight for all these points?. Is this common?

  6. @Foobus, I have no clue. It is working on my end, but you can always just use the code 52DE as mentioned in the post. Sorry the link isn’t working for you!

@kitty B, I’ve heard some questionable things about the SW Airlines portal. I don’t know if they are very slow or if it isn’t working, but that isn’t the first problem I have heard about what them. It is common to have to sometimes chase points down, but it isn’t common to always have to chase them down. Some portals and programs are better than others. Chase Ultimate Rewards is very good. AAdvantage Shopping is not reported to be very good.

  7. I was just thinking about the United floral you mentioned above. I suppose if you acted now or before Jan 31st you could take advantage of the 500 miles for spending $75 mentioned a few weeks before about the United shopping offer. So, if I did the math correct, at $75 spend + bonus= 2,750 miles.
