Super Bowl Sunday = Savings with American Express

As most of you probably know, I love it when the credit cards that I got primarily because they earn me rewards end up saving me money as well.  Today I stumbled across two such opportunities that I wanted to share, both involving Amex.

$5 Off Pizza Hut During the Super Bowl:

First, I saw that Amex and FourSquare were teaming up again to offer $5 off a $10 Pizza Hut pizza purchase tonight if you “check in” to Pizza Hut using the FourSquare application, and pay using an Amex card that you have synched with your FourSquare account.  I know that sounds a little complicated at first, but it really isn’t, and Amex seems to be running similar deals with some frequency.  Read this post for more details about how to sync your Amex to FourSquare.

Since this is just a statement credit, and not a coupon that you use at Pizza Hut, you can still use whatever coupons or deals you wish when ordering in order to secure the best deal.  You will then get a $5 statement credit on top of that.  Pizza doesn’t really fit in well with our family’s healthy eating plan (notice I did not use the word “diet”), but since the Super Bowl is virtually a holiday here in Texas, we will likely take the night off from our healthy eating and indulge in some pizza and football.

Here are the details regarding this deal:

Cardmembers who sync any eligible American Express Card with their Foursquare profile, check in to Super Swarm™ Sunday or Pizza Hut on Foursquare from 2pm to 11:59PM ET on 2/5, & use their synced Card to spend $10 or more at any Pizza Hut location or at, can receive a $5 statement credit. Limit one statement credit per Card. Offer valid from 2/5/12-2/12/12.

$50 Off $250 at Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, and Intercontinental Hotels

Receive a $50 statement credit when you spend $250 or more at any Crowne Plaza Hotel or Resort, Hotel Indigo, or Intercontinental Hotel in the U.S. through March 31, 2012.  You must register for the deal for each of these hotels separately.  The deal is activated by using the “Link, Like, Love” feature on Amex’s Facebook page.  There are various deals that you can “link” to your Amex account that periodically rotate.

Here are the details regarding thus deal:   To be eligible to receive a $50 statement credit you must click the ‘add to card’ button and use your synced Card account to make total purchases of $250 or more at a Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza, or Intercontinental Hotel in the U.S. through March 31, 2012. Only valid on the charges on your room portfolio paid during your stay or at check out. May not include all onsite concessions and does not include pre-payment of any room reservations through a central reservations phone number. Limit one statement credit per Cardmember. Registration is limited. Statement credits are generally issued within 2-3 business days after your qualifying purchase, but may take up to 2 billing periods to post to your account. Program Terms and Conditions apply; click below for details.

I have used both the “Link, Like,  Love” and the FourSquare check-in deals before with great success.  Have you used either of these programs before?  Do you plan to use the Pizza Hut or hotel deal to save your family a little bit of money?

  1. No, I have never used either of those plans. I have no intention of doing so either. For 5 or 50 bucks, just not interested in signing up for their spam barrage, not worth it .

    • @NR, you are right that $5-$50 won’t be worth it for some, but I have to say that I have no received noticeable spam from Amex or FourSquare. Maybe I have just learned to ignore spam and missed it, but I really don’t remember any from these in the past. (of course I do tell them I am not interested in communications from them when that question is asked)

  2. I have used both FourSquare and Link,Like,Love Facebook check-in deals in the past and have always been surprised with how quickly the credits post. In fact, often I get an email almost instantly after the qualifying purchase congratulating me for participating in the promo. I wish I had known about the IHG deal last week. Then I might be staying at the Intercontinental instead of the Hilton Times Square next weekend. Oh well, at least I will get to try out my new Hilton Gold status.

  3. I’ve used Like, Link, Love w/AMEX and no spam. I opted for text and get confirmation immediately of the purchase and pending statement credit. So easy to do

  4. Just received an e-mail from Amex for a $50 credit if I spend $150 or more at OfficeMax, Microsoft, Dun & Bradstreet, Iron Mountain, or Epson. This is in addition to the 5-10% cash back from Amex Open. With that said, I’m going to go purchase a Visa gift card from OfficeMax. I wonder if this is targeted or if any Amex business card qualifies. Anyone else get this or have any purchases coming up to see if it’s targeted?
