Thanks to Duc1986d on MilePoint for pointing out that it is possible for some to get 1,000 United MileagePlus miles by registering their Chase United MilagePlus Explorer card with the United MileagePlus Shopping Portal.

Technically the terms say that you need to have received an email from MileagePlus Shopping to be eligible for the bonus offer.

Terms & Conditions: Offer valid thru 7/31/12. To qualify for the 1,000 bonus award miles offer, you must register your MileagePlus Credit Card in the MileagePlus Shopping program during the time of this promotion. The maximum number of bonus miles that can be awarded to each qualifying member through this promotion is 1,000 bonus miles. This bonus offer is available only for members who received an email from MileagePlus Shopping. The bonus award miles will post to your MileagePlus account within 8 to 10 weeks after the promotion end date.

I do not recall receiving an email from MileagePlus Shopping (though it is always possible I overlooked it), and yet it let me register and said I would receive the 1,000 miles, so who knows.  It is also reported on the MilePoint thread referenced in the first sentence that older Continental OnePass cards also seem to be working for the purposes of this promo.

I got the initial 1,000 mile registration screen to appear on both my husband’s and my accounts, but it only let me actually register our MileagePlus card on my account.  We both are authorized users on the card, but perhaps it didn’t like the same credit card number on two accounts.  Or, perhaps there was some other issue at play that prevented his registration.  Unless you received an email targeting you for this promotion there is no guarantee the 1,000 miles will post to your account, but it appeared to work when I registered.  We’ll see if the miles eventually post.  Can’t hurt to try!

  1. Email or not, there is still not real promise here; if the don’t want you, they’ll find another way out. My burning question is why on earth it takes 8-10 weeks for the bonus to post. Are they hoping that some applicants w ill just forget about the bonus or lose/delete the invitational email. Halfway through the 12th year of this new century, NOTHING should take 8-10 weeks to process. I think your chain has been yanked.

  2. I agree with Cook there is no guarantee email or not. I’m still waiting for miles for installing the DM toolbar 4 months ago among other random bonuses that I did months ago and have yet to be credited.

  3. Very interesting. Both me and wife are united members. she got the email, i did not, btw the link provided via email did not work. i did a google search and found MP’s post on usatoday on 7/14. so when logging with her id, the offer does not show. logging with my id , it shows. i was able to register my onpass mc.

  4. I used Dan’s link, and since I don’t have a UA card, nor a Saphire card, I registered an unrelated Chase card. It responded that I was now “activated”, but didn’t mention getting any miles from doing it. Does that mean I got the bonus, or not?
