Through some back and forth with US Airways via Twitter over the past couple of days, I think I finally have answers to all of the big questions surrounding the double miles promo for using a MasterCard or a US Airways MasterCard.

I’ve written about the promotion here, and about the initial clarification here.  Hopefully this third time is a charm and the details are now clear.  😉

Do flights on partner airlines count?

No, only flights on US Airways or US Airways Express flights count.  This detail was not in the original terms and conditions, but has since been added and clarified.

If you use a US Airways MasterCard do you just receive double elite qualifying miles, or do you receive double redeemable and double elite qualifying miles?

Their answer via Twitter was, “All miles are redeemable. If you book & travel using your US Airways MasterCard, the miles count towards Elite status”.  So, if you use the US Airways MasterCard you earn double redeemable miles that are also elite qualifying (just like most miles earned when you fly).

Do all passengers on a reservation paid for with a US Airways MasterCard earn double miles or is it just the cardholder?

“If you book a ticket for a passenger w/ your US MasterCard and they meet all other T&C of the promo, they’d receive double Elite miles.”  Yay, another good answer!

Here are the current terms and conditions:

Use your US Airways Dividend Miles MasterCard® card to book your next flight and get double Preferred-qualifying miles. OR use your MasterCard card and get double miles. Simply register and book online by October 31, 2012 and you’ll get bonus miles for all of your trips now through December 31, 2012. With more than 200 destinations in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Caribbean, South America, Europe and the Middle East, you can earn double miles to endless options.
Here’s how:

  • Register and book by October 31, 2012
  • Travel by December 31, 2012
  • Use your MasterCard card to book your trip and get double bonus miles
  • Use your US Airways Dividend Miles MasterCard card to book your trip and get double Preferred-qualifying miles

Make sure you remember to register for the promotion.  Mysteries (hopefully) solved.  Case closed.  Thanks to the US Airways Twitter Team for getting us some answers!

  1. I don’t remember registering and I got the double miles. This was great because I had to book the flight with my work credit cards and the credit card earns no points.

  2. Must your travel be completed by 31 Dec 2012 or can it start in Dec and have the return flight be in Janurary? I have a planned trip to begin on 30/31 Dec and returning on 7/8 Jan 2013.

  3. if you have the Amex Gold Premiere it makes more sense to use this, right, for the triple miles? Also, if you’re booking in October, one of the Chase Freedom “special category” is airlines starting October 1, so if you have the Chase Freedom Mastercard I guess that bonus adds to the double miles? Which do you think it makes the most sense to use?

  4. I have a bump voucher to redeem, which I am told can only be done by calling an agent. Would I still get double miles for not booking on line. I would pay the difference with my US AIR MC.
