Quick Mini Points

Here’s the super quick version of some miles and points happenings today…

  • Today is the last day to activate the 1st quarter Chase Freedom® Visa 5x bonus categories of drug stores, gas stations, and Starbucks.  The process is super quick, so make sure you don’t miss out.  If you help keep other family member’s miles and points earning on track, then make sure they have completed this process as well.  As long as you activate by today the bonus is retroactive to the beginning of the quarter.  This is also a good time to do some quick math and see how close you are to maxing out the $1,500 5x limit for the quarter.
  • The Virgin Atlantic American Express bonus is back up to 50,000 points that breaks down like this: 20,000 points after first purchase, 25,000 more after $2,500 spend, and 2,500 points each for up to two authorized users added to the account for a total of 50,000 points.  Many folks like to transfer these points to Hilton at a 1:2 ratio, so 50,000 points would be 100,000 HHonors points.  This card is issued by Bank of American and comes with a $90 annual fee.
  • As you probably have already heard, Google Reader seems to be on the way out in a few months.  If this is something you use to keep up with many blogs like this one then be sure to check out View From the Wing’s post on a viable alternative.
  • If you are keeping an eye on the 2014 Sochi Olympic flights, then if you are going for the first part of the Olympics, the window for booking your return flight might now be open.  One reader even posted they got an award flight all the way from Sochi on a UA award.  I have personally only seen award flights using UA miles on Turkish all the way from Sochi through 2/5 (before the Olympics start), but I am now looking twice as hard.

Disclosure: I do not receive a commission for the Virgin Atlantic cards, but I do for the Freedom cards.  As always, thanks for your support.
