Happy May 1st!  As I do each month, I want to summarize some of the payout changes in the online shopping portals.  Since Mother’s Day is coming up, expect to see many portals with bonuses on stores geared toward Mother’s Day presents.  I have historically focused on the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, more recently started covering the top payouts that can be found in some of the other portals.  Sadly we haven’t seen too many “knock your socks off” payouts in the Ultimate Rewards portal in recent months, so it is worth digging into some of the others as well.  In case you aren’t overly familiar with how the Chase Ultimate Rewards shopping portal works, then head to this post for detailed instructions.  While the Ultimate Rewards portal doesn’t always have the best payout (or the most retailers), they do seem to have some of the better customer service when something goes wrong with the points posting, so keep that in mind as well.

The payouts within the Ultimate Rewards portal can vary based on the type of Ultimate Rewards card you log in with (Chase Freedom Visa, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Ink Plus® Business Card, etc.), but this month doesn’t see many substantial differences between the different cards, so I will just list the payouts all together.  Here are some of the payouts I saw at some popular retailers:

Ultimate Rewards:

Apple 2x (from the 1x it has been stuck at forever)

Anthropologie 5x (no change)

Sears 4x (no change)

Kohl’s 10x (no change) 30x (no change)

Lowes 5x (no change – but remember the Freedom Q2 bonus category is 5x at Lowes, so this stacks)

Brooks Brothers 8x (no change)

Sephora 8x (no change)

Sunglass Hut 8x (no change)

Godiva 7x (from 3x)

Teleflora 15x (no change)

Elizabeth Arden 6x (from 5x)

Nutrisystem 20x (from 8x)

Target 2x (no change)

J. Crew 5x (no change)

AAdvantage Shopping:

FTD 30x

Nordstrom 8x

Kmart 4x

RedEnvelope 10x

Maui Jim 10x

United MileagePlus Shopping:

For some of the MileagePlus payouts you must have a United co-branded credit card and be logged into your account

JC Penney 8x

Blue Nile 6x

Harry & David 12x 20x

FTD 30x

US Airways Dividend Miles Storefront:

Shari’s Berries 18x

Maui Jim 10x

Southwest Rapid Rewards

Ann Taylor 4x

Sephora 8x

Godiva 8x

BlueNile 6x

Vera Bradley 4x

British Airways E-Store 8x 12x

Neiman Marcus 8x

Fossil 12x

Remember to compare these rates to other portals to make sure you are getting the best payout possible.  You can use a site like to quickly compare different portal payout rates for a given retailer.  However, especially for a large purchase, I would manually compare the portals myself to make sure I am getting 100% accurate info on the payouts and any possible bonuses.  Also, in recent months we have seen these payouts fluctuate some within the month, so don’t necessarily count on them remaining constant until June.

As always, an easy way to view all the changes for the Ultimate Reward and United MileagePlus Shopping payouts for the month is to head to Hiker T’s site. Did I leave out any good payouts you spotted?

  1. So, it looks like we should be going through the British Airways e-portal to meet our spend on the flex perks visa promo? I’ve never used that portal. Any pit falls or quirks that you know of that we should watch out for? Thanks.

    • Jamie, exactly. 😉 i have used this portal in this past with no problems, so I can’t think of any quirks to watch out for.

  2. Awesome. Fits in great with our plans because my current mission is to amass enough BA miles to get us to England for Christmas. We are on track to finish soon, so now it’s just a race to finish while the availability is still there.

  3. Miles professor have you ever checked out JCPenny gift cards? You can use them at Sephora if your JCP location has a Sephora inside. You can get much better deals at those locations =)

  4. I recently made a large purchase at via UR Mall and was able to get points even though I paid with gift cards. I see AAdvantae Mall has 8x now for Does anybody know for sure if we also get AA miles via their mall if we pay with gift cards?

  5. I like evrewards but it never seems to show the BA portal as a choice or option. I assume they don’t show BA at all. Do any of the other comparison sites have BA?

  6. @dae: Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, I live in Manhattan and we don’t have stores like JCPenney here. I also don’t like to physically go to the store – plus I often have a 15% off coupon at Sephora and, with 8 points per dollar through UR Mall, that’s like a 30% discount!

  7. You can get 25X at US Air’s portal on FTD thru May 12th anyway, which should cover most people.

    Go to:

AND click on the 25X link. If you don’t you’ll just see the normal 15X. Make sure you see 25X at the top of the page when you click Purchase.

Unfortunately I thought this was the best deal and went with it, but as you highlighted above, AA is offering 30X. And I used an AA card which *might* mean I’ll have trouble if the miles don’t post. Oh well. Maybe I’ll be able to get some bonuses through the US Air portal by making more purchases. We’ll see.
