US Airways 50% Share Miles Promo With “No Fee” (Their Tricky Wording)

I got an email this morning that advertized “no fee” and a 50% bonus when sharing US Airways miles with someone through June 30th.  If this were really the case, it would be a heck of a deal!  However, “no fee” isn’t as good as it sounds at first.

Here are the details:

Limited time offer: Give a 50% bonus and skip the processing fee when you Share Miles!
Now through June 30, 2013, when you share miles, you won’t pay the processing fee. Plus, you’ll give 50% more – up to 25,000 bonus miles.

Sadly, it is just the processing fee of $30 that is waived, and not the roughly two cents per mile of other charges.  That means that if you want to transfer 50,000 of your miles to a friend or family member they will get a total of 75,000 miles with the 50% bonus, and you will be hit with a $500+ charge for doing so….though the $30 processing fee will be waived.  😉

US Airways had a really lucrative share miles promo last year, but sadly this one isn’t that great.  I also think the wording on the title of the email that states “no fee when you share your miles” is a bit misleading.  However, now you know the details and can make a decision accordingly.  I’ll be passing on this deal and hoping a better one comes around at some point.

  1. I too read the email and thought wow really? I’m going to share my 35K or my girlfriends 35K miles with one another to get the bonus. Then I saw and its like $500 for 25K miles bonus so 2 cents per mile before the tax. Forget about it!

  2. Quick question about the current sale on USDM – who is the merchant on these transactions? I am likely buying a bunch of miles soon and would like to get 3X on AMEX BRG or 2X on Ink if possible.
