In the mail today was my shiny new Marriott Gold elite status card that came thanks to the United RewardsPlus partnership with Marriott that was announced last month.  I had honestly forgotten this was on its way (mostly because I will be getting higher Marriott status thanks to the Star MegaDo 5), but it was still a nice surprise to see some elite status that literally arrived on my doorstep without me having to do much at all.

Marriot Gold Mommy Points

In case this slipped your mind as well, here is a quick reminder about the partnership and the perks that Marriott Gold status will provide.

United RewardsPlus Basics:

United Premier Gold members (and higher) can register to receive complimentary Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status and Marriott Rewards Platinum Elite (top-tier) members can register to receive Premier Silver status in MileagePlus.  They also improved the transfer rate from United to Marriott (though I personally would not do that transfer).  Though the 10% bonus on MileagePlus award miles when members redeem for a Marriott Rewards Air and Hotel Travel package using points transferred from a Marriott Rewards account is a decent addition.
Marriott Gold Status Perks:
  • Lounge access and breakfast at select Marriott locations (Free daily continental breakfast, light snacks and beverages for members and one guest in the Executive Lounge. In the U.S. and Canada, choose between 750 bonus points or breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant if the lounge is closed).
  • Room upgrades (Rooms on high floors, corner rooms, rooms with special amenities, rooms on Executive Floors, or suites, subject to availability identified by each hotel)
  • Complimentary Internet access
  • Priority late check-out
  • Free internet access
  • 25% bonus points and much more

Marriott Gold status is actually useful for traveling families, and getting it for United status that I would have anyway is pretty nice.  I don’t frequently stay at Marriott hotels simply because my travel patterns generally favor some other chains, but I do have Marriott stays from time to time and this will improve those stays.

  1. I got Silver United status from being a Platinum with Marriott, with a February 2014 expiration date. Looking forward to flying on United to Anchorage on Sunday with my new status!

  2. You know what’s sad? I have actual hard-earned gold status with Marriott (for a second year) and have never received a gold card in the mail. Maybe if I should apply through RewardsPlus and they’ll value me more? 🙂
