Update: The contest has ended and the randomly selected winner was @brianbergstrom who said that his favorite SPG Amex card benefit was the 5 nights/2 stay credits awarded annually toward elite status.  Great choice, Brian, and thanks to the roughly 700 people who took the time to enter during this “flash giveaway” contest!  There will be at least one more SPG giveaway on this site this year, and it is even bigger.  Stay tuned!

Just as I promised earlier in my review of the Westin Grand Central and SPG Amex US Tennis Open event, today we are giving away 30,000 Starwood Preferred Guest Starpoints in conjunction with my participation in the “SPG Stars” program.  This is a super fast giveaway that runs just six hours today only (September 10th) from 11AM – 5PM Eastern, so don’t delay if you want a chance to win!

The rules are very simple:

1. Follow me on Twitter @Mommy_Points

2. Tweet me letting me know what your favorite Starwood Preferred Guest American Express card perk is using the hashtag #spgamexMP

An example of an eligible Tweet would be:

@Mommy_Points my fav SPG Amex perks are the free 5 nights/2 stay credits toward elite status it gives me each year #spgamexMP  (you can even just copy and paste this Tweet if you want!)

Some other perks of the SPG Amex card you might like include:

  • Ability to earn one valuable SPG point for every eligible dollar charged on the card
  • 2x points on charges from a SPG hotel or resort
  • SPG Gold status if you spend $30,000 in a calendar year on the card
  • Amex customer service and warranties
  • Access to special cardmember events

3.  To be sure you are entered, make sure in the Tweet you have both @Mommy_Points and the hashtag #spgamexMP

The nitty gritty:

To be eligible you have to enter on Twitter between 11AM ET and 5PM Eastern today. You can find all the fine print of the promotion here. Some of the fine print includes:

  • You have to be at least 18 and a resident of the US to qualify
  • Only one entry is allowed per person/Twitter account
  • Winner will be selected at random
  • Winner is responsible for paying taxes on the value of the prize ($750 ARV with SPG points being valued at 2.5 cents per point)
  • A winner will be contacted within 24 hours and announced both here and on Twitter

Please let me know in the comments section if you have any questions (remember entries are accepted only on Twitter as outlined above).  Good luck!

  1. Instead of doing 1 winner for the 30k points, have you ever considered multiple winners with less points? Since SPG properties can be booked with as little as 2k points it increases the chances of winning and creates more happy followers. Maybe 5 winners of 6k points each would be a good number.

  2. Plus that way the winner wounding have to get a huge tax bill that they have to pay out of pocket.

I’m guessing the answer to this will be no though; besides don’t want to rock the boat like Ric did last year or else no thousand dollar comps next year!

  3. The contest and how it is run is not up to me, it is run by Amex so they set the prizes, make the rules, set the valuation, etc. Sometimes I have some influence on setting up giveaways and can take those type of issues into account (and often do!), but this is not really one of those times.

I totally understand if the giveaway isn’t for everyone, but based solely on the number of entries it seems that it does appeal to lots of folks. Sorry if it isn’t structured the way you would prefer, but good luck if you decide to enter! There will be other smaller and less formal giveaways coming soon. 😉

  4. Every now and then such contests could be open to the world, not only to the US citizens… there are SW hotels also elsewere, you know 🙂

    • Miro, totally agree. Most of my giveaways are open to almost anyone (other than where weird local laws prohibit), but sadly this one is not. Hope you get to enter the next one!

    • Jon, regardless of this contest I really do highly highly recommend you come to the world of Twitter. Even if it is solely used for miles and points stuff, there are pieces of info and fare deals you will pretty much only find on twitter. I don’t use it for personal social media purposes either, but for this miles and points hobby it is super helpful.

  5. @Jon, twitter is where the real deals are. I encourage you to get a Twitter account and read daily. Sometimes the best deals flash before your very eyes.

    • Mary, it is so true and it is simply because communication via twitter is instant and easy. Some deals come and go before you could ever get a formal post up, but you can tweet or re-tweet something in less than a second.

  6. Unfortunately I don’t have a tweeting account so I may not be able to participate in this contest. I am going to ask my friends if I can twitter on them.

    • Scott, hopefully the next giveaway will suit your internet preferences better. 😉
I am excited the hundreds and hundreds of folks who have entered so far on Twitter and can’t wait to see who wins!
