Chase Freedom Sign-Up Bonus Increases to 20,000 Points!

Update: It looks like the Sapphire Preferred also increased its sign-up bonus today!  Great day for those who are interested in a Chase Ultimate Rewards card.

The Chase Freedom – $200 Bonus Cash Back card has been in my wallet for a long time, and it will remain there even longer as it has no annual fee, has rotating bonus categories of 5x, and the points it earns can be transferred to hotel and airline partners if you also have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Ink Plus® Business Card, or Ink Bold® Business Card.

The only “downside” to this card in recent history has been the relatively low sign-up bonus of 10,000 Ultimate Reward points (or $100 if redeemed as cash back) after hitting the spending threshold.  However, today that sign-up bonus has increased!

The Chase Freedom – $200 Bonus Cash Back card now offers $200 in bonus cash (or 20,000 Ultimate Reward points) after spending $500 in the first three months!  This is advertized as a limited time offer.  They have also announced that the 2014 first quarter 5x bonus categories will be at gas stations, Starbucks, and movie theaters – up to the $1,500 max for the quarter.

Chase Freedom

This is the best deal I have seen for the Freedom in at least 18 months.  Thanks to Slick Deals for spreading the good news!

    • Jan, I haven’t seen a working link to apply for a MC version in quite a while, but the Visa version does still have a sign-up bonus.

  1. So, just to clarify if I have the Ink Bold, the Freedom will allow me to transfer points to other UR partners?

Am I to assume that once you’re in the UR transfer system from another card (In this case Ink), you are good to go for any UR points earned.. even across personal and biz cards?

  2. While browsing around this morning I found this link independently, and now it appears someone else has found it too, for a Sapphire Preferred card with a 50,000 bonus sign up but with a $125 annual fee. Do you have insight if this is going to become the new norm? While I’m really interested in the CSP, the $125 fee is not very appealing.

  3. Thanks MP! Been waiting to get this for my wife, since I already have it. Pulled the trigger, instant approval.

Also note, that the 2014 Q1 categories are on their calendar on the app. Gas, movies and Starbucks. Plan ahead!

  4. Levi, yes you can transfer the Freedom UR points to your Ink Bold and then to hotel and airline partners. You can also link them all I believe from the business card account, but I think you have to call in to do that.
Anthony, hadn’t seen that! Will add it to the CSP post!
tgiener, congrats and where did you find the 2014 calendar? I looked around and didn’t see it. Thanks!
golferwc, good point and here is a link to that for anyone interested For what it’s worth, the referral site has worked for me in the past, but told me I was ineligible today. Could be a fluke though.

  5. Got it a month ago… terrible timing I know, but I wanted to max Amazon spend for the holidays. I just sent a message asking to match (offered to spend another $500 on the card as a sweetener), will see how it goes. AmEx has been generous on this sort of issues in the past, any experience with Chase?

  6. If I applied 2-3 weeks ago, do you think Chase will give me the new bonus if I call and ask?

I have not received my $100 bonus, but have met the spending required.

  7. I just got a Sapphire Preferred and my wife just got a Freedom within the last 30 days….I am confident that Chase will honor both these offers as they always are excellent at customer service on these and I bet they are still smarting from United and Hyatt devaluations………….GREAT POST! Exactly what we want to see………

  8. On the Refer-a-Friend website, pay close attention to what offer you’re referring. I just checked with my Freedom account, and it is showing $100 (10k UR). That’s obviously not as good a deal as the new 20k offer.

  9. I’ve had the Sapphire Pref for about a year and a half now. My wife also has her own CSP card (applied before we got married). To consolidate this, she’s going to cancel her account after she gets her 7% bonus early 2014 and I’m going to add her as an authorized user to my account. Is there a chance I’ll get the 5000 bonus if I ask Chase? I’ve been a good Chase customer for a few years.

  10. Quick question…why did I stop receiving email updates on your blog? I’ve searched around for a “subscribe” button to get back on the list, but I haven’t found it…

  11. I have a Sapphire Preferred and a Freedom. If my wife gets a Freedom card (without CSP or Ink) will she be able to transfer her UR points to my CSP or Freedom account?

  12. Quick update: I opened a Freedom card 1 month ago. Yesterday I sent a message asking to get the extra 10,000 UR points in bonus. Today Chase deposited them in my account. Great customer service!
