First, safe and on-time wishes to all that are traveling today for Thanksgiving. I know lots of parts of the country are experiencing some weather issues that will make travel by land or air more challenging. Here are some good basic tips on what to do if your flight is delayed or cancelled. The summary is be very proactive – especially on a busy travel day like today. If you are in the airline lounge, utilize those agents. If you are in the terminal, utilize the internet of your phone instead of waiting in the long lines at the gate if your flight is very delayed or cancelled. Many airlines have travel weather waivers out so that you can change your flights for free.
United has even added new flights tonight (that are currently almost totally empty) tonight from CLE-EWR 8 p.m.; IAH-EWR 6 p.m.; ORD-LGA 6 p.m.; IAD-EWR 8 p.m. This will help those who miss earlier connections through those hubs today due to weather, but currently those flights aren’t showing award availability.
However, at least on United, award availability for travel today is very good. I know everyone says make your Thanksgiving plans very early if you want to use miles, and for normal family life that is absolutely very good advice, but if you can fly by the seat of your pants even Thanksgiving award travel can be plentiful at the last minute.
If we didn’t already have Thanksgiving plans at my house (and if the weather wasn’t questionable), I’d be tempted to load my kiddo up and head to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!
Anyone making a last minute decision to burn some miles and head home for the holidays (or fly far away from home)?
Got last minute seats on SFO-LHR on Virgin Atlantic upper class, only 2.50 in fees and burn some Skypesos! I almost would call then not Skypesos but finding a return wasn’t easy
@Jason. How are you getting the fees to price so low. I can’t find anything below 300.
He’s talking about one way. The fees hit on the return.
Not if you train to the continent and then return from there…….well not as bad 142.50 out of CDG thru FRA
Yesterday, I burned 15k and $75 for an upgrade to First for SFO-JFK. AA had “sold out” of upgrades using 500s for PLATs. Well worth it!!
