Here are a few tidbits and reminders about a few deals going on today in the miles and points world….

Last Day to “Buy” US Airways Miles for 1.135 cents each:

Today (Friday) is the deadline to buy miles by participating in the US Airways “share miles” 100% bonus promo.  You can get full details in this post, but essentially if you share miles with a friend then they get a 100% bonus on the shared miles,.  This means sharing 50,000 miles will cost $567.50, but will result in your friend getting 100,000 miles in their account with the 100% bonus.  That comes to a cost of 1.135 cents per mile for the bonus 50,000 miles.  That is a very good price for buying miles, but with everything, there are some risks and things to consider before pulling the trigger so read the linked post for full details.

Avianca LifeMiles 100% Bonus on Purchased Miles Through December 30th:

Through December 30th, 2013, those who were members of LifeMiles before December 3rd can purchase up to 75,000 miles at a cost of 1.5 cents per mile.  LifeMiles can be used to book Star Alliance flights just like US Airways miles, but they can be used to book one-ways at half the price of round trips (unlike US miles), and there are some good redemptions in this program. However, there are also downsides that you should learn a bit more about before purchasing miles.  I have personally bought and used miles in this program before with success.  Here is a more in-depth post on LifeMiles, and let me know if you have any questions and I will either answer or point you in the right direction.

Chase Sapphire Preferred First Friday 3x on Dining Today:

The Chase Sapphire Preferred card pays out 3x on dining on the first Friday of each month, which happens to be today!  Tip: If you want to sign-up for the Sapphire Preferred then check the Chase website to see if you can get an even better sign-up offer!  This is of course just a modest increase over the regular 2x on dining, but every little bit helps.  Maybe my husband’s boss would want to use our Sapphire Preferred to pay for their big holiday party tonight…assuming we were reimbursed, of course!  If you are shopping for restaurant gift cards or need to pay for a holiday catering order, today might be a good day to do that to get maximum point returns for your efforts.

$10 Donation Gets Entry for 110,000 Gold Passport Points or Many Other Prizes + Supports Building Schools in Mali, Africa:

Passports With Purpose is trying to raise $115,000 to help buildOn construct three schools and fund three adult literacy programs in Mali, Africa. Every $10 donated enters you to win one of the prizes you select from their catalogue, and goes directly to buildOn.  I have worked with Passports With Purpose before, and it is a good way to try to win a great prize for yourself while having your donation go toward their project of the year.  Some of the prizes you can try to win include 110,000 Hyatt points, 100,000 Club Carlson points, $1,000 HomeAway gift certificate, and lots of other travel related prizes.  If you want more info on this, you can go directly to the Passports With Purpose website, or read Loyalty Travelers good post on the project (he is the one who secured the 110k Hyatt prize!).

Have a great Friday, and continued warm wishes and good luck for those trying to transit the DFW or similar icy areas!
