Activate Freedom 5x Bonus Categories of Restaurants and Lowe’s

A couple of days ago I offered a reminder to make sure you had activated the 2014 first quarter Chase Freedom® bonus categories of gas stations, Starbucks, and movie theaters before the March 14th deadline.  That deadline has passed, but the window is now open to activate the second quarter 5x bonus categories of restaurants and Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores.  While you are in there registering you can also request to get email and/or text reminders for future quarterly activations.  Just in case you don’t want to rely on your friendly neighborhood blogs to remind you.

Freedom 5x activate

You will have several months to activate this bonus, but I find it is easiest with things like this to just get it done as soon as possible to eliminate the possibility of getting busy later on and potentially forgetting.  As always, you will be capped at earning the 5x bonus (often advertized as 5% cash back) on the first $1,500 spent per quarter in those categories.

You have until March 31st to finish up your 5x earning in the first quarter categories, and then on April 1st you can begin earning 5x at restaurants and Lowe’s Home Improvement stores.  I’ll do a post in early April on some ways to maximize these categories in case you don’t naturally spend that much on eating out or spring home improvement projects.  Until then, just go ahead and get the bonus activated so you don’t accidentally miss out.
