Hilton HHonors Summer Promo + Virgin America Transfer Bonus

Here are the basics on two promos that are out right now and might help a few of you stretch your points or even earn a few extra ones!

Hilton HHonors Double Points or Double Miles Spring/Summer Promo Launched:

From May 1 – July 31, 2014 you can earn Double Points or Double Miles at participating hotels and resorts in the Hilton Portfolio.  You do need to register for the promotion, and keep in mind you can only pick double miles or double points and cannot change your selection once you register.  The miles or points will be doubled based on base earnings, not on the total number you might be earning thanks to elite status or similar.  There is a list of hotels that are not participating in the promotion that can be found here.

This promo is pretty similar to the late spring/ early summer Starwood Preferred Guest promotion that awards double or triple points (triple if the stay includes a Sunday) that was announced last week.

30% Membership Rewards Transfer Bonus for Virgin America:

Through April 30th you get a 30% transfer bonus when you move points from the American Express Membership Rewards Program via cards like the Everyday Card, Premier Rewards Gold, and Platinum Cards to Virgin America.  This means that instead of getting the standard ratio of 200 Membership Reward points: 100 Virgin America points, you are getting 200 Membership Reward points: 130 Virgin America points.  Virgin America points are worth a fixed amount, which seems to be around 2.3 cents per point for Virgin America operated flights.  I would not speculatively transfer based on this promo as there have been better ones in the past, but it could be helpful if you are ready to pull the trigger on a Virgin America award in the near future.  You can read more about how/when to use Virgin America points in this post I wrote the last time there was a transfer bonus.
