500 Free United Miles + Up to 2,500 More Easy United Miles via Dining Program!

Right now you can earn 500 free United MileagePlus miles just for joining their United MileagePlus Dining Program.  This is the first time in a very long time I can remember them handing out bonus United miles just for joining and completing an online profile with no requirements attached to eat at a participating restaurant.  These are truly free and easy miles.  You have to do this by July 10, 2014 to get the bonus miles.

3,000 bonus United miles

If you do want to eat at a participating restaurant, you can then earn 500 additional bonus miles each time you dine out within 30 days, up to five times – for a grand total of 3,000 bonus miles.  I don’t see any minimum spend required for the bonus miles, so presumably you could go and have a Coke (or a beer!) at a participating restaurant 5 times in the first 30 days and get the full 3,000 miles.  In my area some of the participating restaurants are fast food type joints, so grabbing a soft drink would be cheap and painless.  That’s a great deal – might be time to get my daughter signed up for the dining plan!

You will also be earning the standard 3 miles per dollar at eligible restaurants – and 5 miles per dollar once you hit VIP status with 12 or more dines in a year.  Of course these miles are on top of whatever miles you are earning on your rewards credit cards such as 2x on dining with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or even 5x on restaurants during this second quarter of 2014 with the Chase Freedom®.  You can also still use whatever coupons, discounts, or dining rewards programs the restaurant you are eating at might offer.  Since your credit card is registered with the dining plan there are no extra steps to go through when you eat out other than just pay with your registered card.  This can result in simple “triple dipping” of rewards just for eating or drinking something you might have had anyway.

Whether you ever eat at a participating restaurant or not, I would encourage you to get the 500 free miles that are yours for the taking!

  1. Not clear on something. If I create a new profile with a new email address, can I sneak in a MP account that already is linked to a dining account? Or do I need to use a new MP account number?

  2. A perfect way to top off some family members’ accounts! Thanks for sharing!

Oh, and in response to Dave’s question, I don’t think you’ll be able to set it up with a MP number that is already tied to a dining account. The same goes for a credit card that is already linked to a dining account (even if it’s AAdvantage or Skymiles dining). It won’t let you add the card if it’s already on another dining account.
