Increased Points For Yourself and Others Ends 6/30 For Two Chase and Amex Offers

This offer has expired.

There are lots of limited time credit card sign-up offers that are expiring at the end of June, which is less than a week away.  I plan to have a full list of those offers up tomorrow, but there are two that are important to mention today because in order to maximize the sign-up offers you need a bit more time.

Both the Chase Freedom and American Express Starwood Preferred Guest are offering not only limited time increased sign-up bonuses for new applicants, but they are both offering 5,000 bonus points to the person who already has the card and makes the referral.  The trick is that both offers actually have activities that have to happen even before June 30th if you want to be sure that the referrer and referee get their bonuses.  Here are a few additional details about both offers that are scheduled to go poof after June 30th.

Chase Freedom®

This offer is double the normal sign-up bonus, and it is a very good offer considering it is a card with no annual fee.  The points are even transferable to hotel and airline partners such as United, Hyatt, Southwest, British Airways, IHG, Marriott, Singapore Airlines and more if you also have the Ink Plus® Business Card, Ink Bold® Business Card, or Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.  If you don’t also have one of those cards, the points are basically worth one cent each toward statement credits, gift cards, etc.  The kicker with this card is that it earns 5x on rotating bonus categories each quarter.  Coming up for the third quarter this year is 5x at gas stations and Kohl’s.  This 5x earning is capped at $1,500 per quarter – or 30,000 pretty easy points per year (you do have to activate the bonuses)!

Many who had the card were able to refer others to the temporarily increased offer and receive 5,000 bonus points in return if the person referred was approved and used the card by September 30th.  As far as I can tell, you need to have referred your friends by June 20th, but if you did that they still have until June 30th to apply using your referral email in order for you to get the referral credit.  They will get the 20,000 point increased offer.  So be sure to remind your friend/family member that the clock is ticking!

Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Cards: Up to 30,000 points; 10,000 after your first purchase on the card and another 20,000 after $5,000 in eligible purchases in the first 6 months

Increased SPG offer

Both the business and personal versions of the Starwood Preferred Guest credit cards have increased sign-up offers though June 30th, but with this one the terms state you have to actually be approved for the card by June 30th.  I would make referrals and apply in advance of that date as approvals are not always instant.  If you have one of these cards you can still make referrals to your friends/family using the links below, but again they have to be approved by June 30th so don’t delay if you want them to get an increased sign-up offer.  If you already have a card you can get 5,000 bonus SPG points per approved referral (up to 55k points per calendar year).  You have to have the exact type of card you are referring others to.

For the last few years the SPG cards have increased their sign-up bonuses from up to 25k to up to 30k points just once per year, typically during the summer.  If one of these cards are on your short list, I would move sooner rather than later if you want the 30k version of the sign-up bonus.

I’m also happy to refer you for the business or personal version of the cards if you email me at mommypoints at, or you can apply directly with American Express without being referred.

Either way, good luck if you decide to go for one of these offers or make referrals to others!

Disclosure: I do receive a commission if you are approved for a credit card using one of my affiliate links, but of course it makes much more sense for you to earn points and refer your family members if you already have the card!
