The month started off with a bang yesterday with multiple new buy miles, earn miles, and other promos announced.  To save you time, I’m just going to do a round-up of several of these promos in one post to give you a quick overview then you can dig down deeper to learn more if any one of the offers looks interesting for your family.

Buy miles promos from US Airways, United, and LifeMiles:

United is offering up to a 100% bonus on purchased miles based on how many people buy miles during this particular promotion that runs through September 4th.  Right now the bonus is just at 40% and it looks pretty unlikely to me that it will get anywhere near 100%, but you never know.  If enough people bought miles to trigger the 100% bonus it would mean getting United miles for about 1.88 cents each, which is a good rate, but not earth shattering.

United Buy Miles

US Airways is offering their common 100% bonus on purchased miles for many accounts through September 30th based on how many miles you purchase.

1,000-9,000 miles = 25% Bonus
10,000-19,000 miles = 50% Bonus
20,000-29,000 miles = 75% Bonus
30,000-50,000 miles = 100% Bonus

Assuming you have the 100% offer on your account and this means getting miles for as low as 1.88 cents each which is what the United miles will be if, and only if, at least 4,501 people participate in that promotion.

LifeMiles has brought back their 2 for 1 miles promo through September 30th which brings the cost per mile down to 1.5 cents per mile.  Remember that starting October 1st, 2014, the price of the block of 1.000 miles will increase and the award chart also has some changes starting October 15th.  LifeMiles can be a good program, but can also be a royal pain in the tail if you need to make any changes to your itinerary so I would do a little homework on the program before deciding to pull the trigger on this one even though the price is pretty good.

New IHG Bonus Promo Coming:

Yesterday I got a head’s up that IHG Rewards will be running a promo called “Into the Nights.” This promo will offers members at least two free hotel nights at any IHG hotel anywhere in the world, 50,000 points, or 10,000 airline miles, but just like with last year’s “Big Win” everyone’s individual offers will be a bit unique.  Full details should be available at starting tomorrow, and the promo runs through December 31st.  I’ll post more tomorrow once the details are released.

SPG Pro Launching to reward meeting and travel planners in new way:

If you book meetings, events, or are a professional travel planner (as in travel agent, sadly not the travel “pro” for your family) then check out the new SPG Pro program.  You will earn points and elite credits in your SPG account based on the amount of business you book with SPG.

Have a great Wednesday – yes, it is already Wednesday!

  1. MP, I’ve been seeing targeting Amex Everyday offers for 15k, but not for general public. I’m shopping to retire my PRG and would like to know if there are any 15k bonus promos accessible to anyone. I’ve got till November to close that account 🙂

    • ed, I haven’t heard anything specifically but that would be great! Of course the EveryDay Preferred is 15k as a public offer but I haven’t seen that yet for the annual fee free card.
