It is officially fall promo time and today Club Carlson sent out an email about a fall promo where you can earn triple points on weekday stays at select locations using the code BIZTIME3.  That was a mouthful, huh?!

From now until November 30th you can earn triple points on stays Sunday – Thursday using the code BIZTIME3 at select hotels.  The list of hotels seems to be quite heavy on the Country Inn & Suites locations and light on the “nicer” Club Carlson locations.  Of course anytime a specific code is in play that means that taking advantage of the promo may mean you are forgoing access to the lowest rates.  Which I guess they are assuming business travelers don’t care about as much…

On top of that I want to mention that Club Carlson is also handing out 3,000 bonus points for cash stays booked on their mobile app from September 8 – November 16, 2014.

Earn two free nights for one cheap stay by stacking offers:

Let’s do the math quickly on this to see how it all adds up.  For a one night stay on September 24th at the Country Inn and Suites Austin University there is availability for the BIZTIME3 rate at $84 for the night.  Let’s ignore taxes for the time being for the sake of simple math.

Normally that would earn $84 x 20 points per dollar for 1,680 total points.

However, if you stack both of these offers you could earn:

3,000 points from mobile booking

5,040 from the BIZTIME3 promo

That is 8,040 points instead of just 1,680, which is clearly a big difference for minimal extra work.  To take it a step further, if you also had the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card then you would earn an additional 10 points per dollar for paying with that card and a 35% bonus on base points earned by virtue of having Club Carlson Gold status.  That would take the 8,040 points to a total of 9,468 points, which is enough for a 9k free night in a Category 1 hotel.  In fact, if you have the card it is actually enough for two free nights since the last award night is free with the co-branded credit card.

I find it incredible that stacking these promos can lead to one $84 hotel night earning enough for two free hotel nights…albeit at Category 1 properties.  Not incredible enough to book stays I don’t otherwise need, but cool none the less.
