That was fast – as the fake spider webs are still hung outside, our first holiday themed bonus miles promo is already out!  I expect this to be the first of many to come over the next two months, and I’ll do my best to keep you in the loop during the most expensive wonderful time of the year.

Earn Up To 1,200 Bonus Southwest Rapid Reward Points:

From November 1, 2014 at 12:01 AM – November 23, 2014 you can receive a one-time bonus of up to 1,200 bonus Rapid Reward points in addition to the standard points earned from Rapid Rewards Shopping. Bonus points will be issued based on cumulative spending:

Rapid Rewards Bonus Miles

300 bonus points for $175 in cumulative purchases

600 bonus points for $350 in cumulative purchases

900 bonus points for $525 in cumulative purchases

1,200 bonus points for $700 or more in cumulative purchases

This is not an especially generous promo, but stacked with some of the increased portal payouts we have seen recently, it will result in a few extra miles for some online shoppers.

    • Nick, I have had really very much improved success even with these bonuses in the last 12 months. Not perfect I’m sure, but not bad at all.

  1. I assume this is stackable with the targeted triple points promo… Come to think of it, this is not a very good bonus. It works out to be merely 1.7 points per dollar spent. Since you earn 6-12 points per dollar spent, this promotion amounts to a paltry 14% to 28% bonus.

  2. To put it in perspective, 1200 SW points are worth about $24 towards a SW ticket.

Plus by using this meager bonus offer, you give up the opportunity to use other more generous offers from other shopping portals. I’d rather get 5 points per $ from the Chase UR portal than 2.7 SW points.

    • These bonuses are most useful when buying something that isn’t a higher payout on another portal, but also want to clarify these are bonuses on top of the regular payout.

  3. Hey, I’m fairly new to the shopping portals, holiday bonuses, and points in general. What is considered a good holiday promo? Also, do the deals tend to improve after Thanksgiving?

I’m just planning on my regular monthly shopping for now, and maybe happening to get this, but was curious how things worked.

    • Good varies so much based on the retailer and flat out good luck. Getting 7x just on the bonus via the Alaska promo is quite good -especially if you stack it with things like the Sears 8x and 5x on a card like the Freedom. In general, any time you are earning 10x or better on a purchase, you are usually doing pretty well…assuming you were going to make that purchase anyway.

  4. My husband just got approved for the personal & business cards and we’re on our way to meeting the spend and getting the bonus in early 2015 so we can qualify for the Companion Pass for most of 2015 and all of 2016.

We plan to get the additional 6,000 qualifying points by using the shopping portal. Is there a particular timeframe that we need to be aware of? For instance, if we buy something now through the portal, would those bonus points work toward our Companion pass achievement in 2015?

    • Cindy, awesome! I would ask someone with more experience with the CP and shopping portal like Frequent Miler as he can have some first hand answers when mine would just be informed guesses. 😉 Congrats on the card approvals!
