Here are a few miles and points related updates on United, Silvercar, and Club Carlson.  Stay warm this Saturday morning!

20% Off Select United Economy Awards from the United States to Europe:

If you book United saver awards between November 12 – December 4, 2014, for travel from January 12 – March 12, 2015, you can use 20% fewer United miles to fly from the United States or Canada (not Hawaii) to Amsterdam (AMS), Brussels (BRU), Frankfurt (FRA), Geneva (GVA), Hamburg (HAM), London (LHR), Munich (MUC), Paris (CDG) and Zurich (ZRH) in economy on a United operated flight.  This means that it would cost 48,000 miles round trip instead of the usual 60,000 miles.  The discount is valid only for travel on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the sale travel period.  You can have an open jaw in the same region, but not a stopover with this discount.

Earn Double Points with Club Carlson:

From November 4 – December 30, 2014, you can register to earn either double points or double nights toward elite status on eligible stays at more than 1,000 participating Carlson Rezidor hotels worldwide.  I can’t imagine many in the US would do better with double nights since you can get Club Carlson Gold status just by having the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card co-branded credit card, so in most cases you will probably want to register for double points.

Club Carlson Double Points

With double points you will be earning 20 bonus Gold Points per dollar spent in addition to the standard 20 Gold Points per dollar.  If you have the co-branded card and use it to pay for charges at Club Carlson hotels, you are earning a total of 50 Gold Points per dollar during the promo period, which is pretty amazing.

Earn $100 with Silvercar Referrals and Get 50% Off Rentals Next Week:

I’ve been wanting to try Silvercar “the no hassle rental car company” for a while, and even had a rental lined up with them I canceled at the last minute when our plans changed.  I despise the traditional rental car process, so would love to try a little different approach.  Silvercar only rents silver Audi A4s, and as of very recently Audi Q5 SUVs with ski racks are available in Denver!  Yes, they do have car seats available

Of course Silvercar prices are a bit higher than the lowest rates you can usually fine with another company, but their rates aren’t always that much higher, especially for your first rental when you are eligible for the new customer sign-up bonuses.

Through the end of the year, every new customer that completes a transaction of two days or more using your referral code earns you $100.  Here is my referral link, but you are absolutely welcome to leave yours in the comments section.  New renters can get $50 off their first drive, and then another $50 cash when they complete that rental.  See more details on that process here

Silvercar Referral

In addition, next week Silvercar is offering 50% off rentals starting from 11/16 – 11/21/14 using the code GIVETHANKS.  Silvercar is currently available at Austin, Dallas Love, LAX, Miami, Denver, San Francisco, and Phoenix and I’m very much looking forward to hopefully getting to keep my next reservation with them!

  1. I hate paying for parking at the airport. I just booked a country inn and suites and I’ll do park and fly + double points. (50 pts per dollar) It will cost me about the same as parking, but we won’t have to drive 40 minutes after long flights late at night and we get free breakfast in the morning. I’ve never been in a country inn and suites before, but the Marriotts I called wouldn’t do reverse park and fly, (park 1st then stay) which makes no sense. What difference does it make?

  2. Hi! Do you know if this 20% United discount has occurred before? If so, how frequently would you say? We have to book a trip with our United miles by January but we can’t take the trip until April or later…
