Bad Change at the Comfort Suites Paradise Island in the Bahamas

The Comfort Suites Paradise Island hotel is one of the best hotel values for staying near Atlantis and accessing the massive water park and other Atlantis amenities on a budget.  Many of us buy Choice Hotel points in the annual Daily Getaways sale with the plan of using them in the Bahamas at the Comfort Suites Paradise Island. My own family has completed one stay that way and purchased enough points to have another stay in the future.

For years the property has required 25,000 points per night, but as Mommy Points reader Dainya just pointed out to me via email, the hotel now requires 35,000 points per night.

Comfort Suites Paradise Island Price Increase

Choice Hotels already is a questionable program to bank on as they don’t allow award bookings more than 30 days out in the US and Canada and 60 days out internationally, but no notice award chart changes are the worst.  In fairness, I don’t follow the Choice Hotel program closely enough to say definitively that they didn’t provide any type of notice, but I do keep a relatively close eye on these sort of things and didn’t notice any announcement even though I do have points in the program.  Well, I used to have enough for three nights at that property, now just enough for two nights…

I’ll try to get some additional info on this change, but likely what is done is done and Comfort Suites Paradise Island is now 35,000 points per night instead of the 25,000 that it previously cost.  Looks like the soonish-to-open Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in the Bahamas is looking better and better at 15,000 Hyatt/Ultimate Reward points per night!

  1. I have a booking with the 15k points at Baha Mar but now I’m having second thoughts as Atlantis is more family based and our son loves Atlantis! Personally I think I would like the Hyatt and casino, but not sure there are going to be a lot of kids there. I guess time will tell!

  2. That does stink… I was planning on a family trip to the Bahamas…

However, this isn’t the end. Fortunately for someone like me, who has Amtrak Select status (or Amtrak credit card) you can convert 10k UR points to 10K Amtrak point then convert them into 30k Choice points

So yes you’ll have to spend a little more UR points but not the end of the world…

  3. oh this really stinks! I have 51k points and planning to book two nights there in June 2015. now I have to get more points or stay elsewhere!

  4. Choice is the easiest of all hotel chains with which to get a BRG (free night). So try to BRG the first night, which can be done months in advance. Then point the second.

  5. Now,
I looked at their chart and the only reasonable redemption for Choice points are in Rome, Rio and some very cold Scandinavian regions.
Not much value anywhere else..unless I missed something.

  6. If you use rewards points for Comfort Suites in Nassau, are you still required to pay the additional fees they charge for taxes, housekeeping and energy surcharge?
