Today Jake from modhop wrote a guest post in order to share how he turned the task of having to build a baby shower registry into a mileage earning opportunity for his baby shower attendees!  That sort of earning is totally up my alley, so I am more than happy to have him share his ideas here!

On this weeks list of husbandy ‘things-to-do’ I was tasked with building our baby registry, a job I’m not at all qualified to do. How many burp rags do we need? Is a bottle warmer really necessary? My god that car seat looks heavy! Making the list was a big challenge for me, so I worked up to it (or “stalled” as my wife puts it) by searching out good ways to reward our gifters. I naturally gravitated to what I would want most If I were them…

Earn Miles Baby Shower

My husband was less than impressed at our baby shower for C, too!

After some research I chose diapers.com for our newborn baby registry needs. They’ve got everything we were looking for, reasonable prices and at least 2x airline miles for our gifters if accessed via these airlines’ shopping portals.  For up-to-date mileage payouts you can check the payouts for diapers.com here

3x miles via American Airlines eShopping. (our fave)

It pays to check different airline shopping portals to see who’s got the bigger mileage payout.  You can also use a website such as www.evreward.com or www.cashbackmonitor.com.  Mommy Points also writes regularly about different shopping portal payouts and how to use them to maximize your mileage earnings.

2x miles via US Airways Storefront – If you’re not going to use the Dividend Miles quickly, we’d skip this option for the 3x AA miles since the programs are merging in 2015.

2x miles via Delta Skymiles Shopping

2x miles via United Mileage Plus Shopping

While we found diapers.com to be the best for multiple points across the big four (soon three) portals, there are better deals to be had on some of the items in our registry. For example: The “City Mini” stroller we registered is the same price at DrugStore.com, but using the American Airlines portal, you’ll earn 4x points there vs. 3x at Diapers.com. If your shower guests choose to buy somewhere else they’ll need to let you know so you can remove it from the your registry so you don’t end up with multiples, even though it will ruin the surprise.

Combined with the using the best rewards earning credit card, the earning potential for your registry guests can be pretty nice if they navigate through the portals the right way.

Gift-givers get miles, you get diapers. Win-win?

Thanks to Jake for sharing this baby shower mileage brainstorming ideas, and best wishes for his upcoming shower!
