Last week United brought us a pretty cool unannounced discount on the number of miles required for partner awards to Europe and Asia for the first quarter of 2015.  This sale results in the partner awards pricing at the same price as United operated flights, which is a pretty significant discount over the normal price of the partner awards.  This sale is still active as of today, but there are now two other United award sales joining the ranks.

Today United started two other award sales, but this time on some really great domestic and North America destinations.  I’m a little confused as to why they would discount the mileage price to ski destinations during ski season, but I love it!

Via Running for Miles, this sale is bookable now through December 30 for travel from January 12 – February 12, 2015.

Notice the large number of great ski destinations on that list?!  I sure as heck did!  Of course there are a couple of beach destinations thrown in too, in case you are trying to escape winter for a few days.  If this has spurred you into putting together a ski trip on miles and points, be sure to also check out this post for tips on great ski hotels you can stay at on points.

While the page listing the details of the sale isn’t working for me right now, the discount is now live, so you can book any of those destinations for 10,000 miles each direction (round trip travel required), resulting in a 20% savings over the normal mileage rate.

United Discount Award Sale

20% Discount on MileagePlus Awards from US and Canada to Hawaii, Canada, and Mexico in Economy:

There is also a 20% sale for travel from the US to Canada, Mexico, and Hawaii!  This drops the price of round trip travel to Canada to 20,000 miles, Mexico to 28,000 miles, and Hawaii to 36,000 miles, all in economy.

United Hawaii Sale

For all of the discounts, you need to be traveling on United or United Express operated flights, have round trip travel, and the discount does not apply to existing reservations (unless of course you re-book).  The discount does apply to both non-stop and connecting flights.

A 20% mileage discount isn’t life changing, but it is enough to get me excited as that is a savings that can really add up when you are booking for an entire family!

  1. Thanks for this heads up, I have been on the fence between paying cash or points for an upcoming trip to Cancun/Merida Mexico. We have 6 nights in pointsbreak rooms in Merida. If I use my new Arrival card for the car rental this is going to be quite a bargain!
