If you have a US Airways MasterCard odds are pretty good you got an email informing you that you can earn 5,000 – 10,000 miles for referring your friends and family members to the sign-up offer that awards 50,000 miles after the first purchase and payment of the $89 annual fee. If so, this may be the perfect way this holiday season to give the gift of a great offer and get a little something in return. Look in your inbox for an email with the subject line “Refer your friends and earn up to 50,000 bonus miles” and you should hopefully find the email with a referral link. I have two US Airways cards and one is giving me 5,000 per referral while the other is giving me 10,000 per referral!
The offer says that your friends must apply and be approved by January 18, 2015, so we know the 50k offer should be around at least until then. You can earn a maximum of 50,000 miles by making referrals. This offer is a great way to get a semi-reluctant friend or family member into the hobby as the it is a healthy number of miles, the miles are awarded on first purchase of the card (and payment of the annual fee), it comes with a pretty handy companion certificate, and the card will close to new applicants at some point in 2015 as a result of the merger with American Airlines.
There is another version of the offer out there that awards the same sign-up bonus but also provides 10,000 anniversary miles. However, that version is marketed to US Airways elite members only. I have heard mixed reports of it working for non-elite applicants, so it may be worth the gamble, or you could just go for the official offer.
I love it when credit card companies given an incentive for cardholders to spread the word about the card to others in exchange for some miles and points. Good luck spreading the word about this good offer!
