Four Things to Do Today to Not Miss Out!

Today is the last day of January, so there are many deadlines to be sure you are aware of in order not to miss out on miles and travel savings.

Last Day for 40% Transfer Bonus from Amex Membership Rewards to British Airways Avios:

I will write more about later in the day, but today is the deadline to transfer your American Express Membership Reward points to British Airways with a 40% bonus.  I first wrote of this promotion here, but will offer more thoughts on why you may or may not want to participate later today.  However, if you already know you want to make the transfers, this is your last chance!  Just be sure before you do anything that you are aware of the coming changes to the British Airways Avios program.

Last Day to Request Two Free Nights from “IHG Into the Nights Promo”:

If you participated in the IHG “Into the Nights” promotion that ended on December 31, 2014, then the terms state today is the last day you can request two award nights instead of just receiving the points from the promotion.  For many of us, the two award nights you can use around the world are more valuable than the points, so don’t accidentally miss the deadline.  However, the Into the Nights website has been down the last several days, so you need to call IHG into order to select your two award nights at 1-888-211-9874.

Here is a post on how to use the award nights once they are in your account.

Last Day to Claim $100 Global Entry Credit from United (1K and Platinum elites):

Effective 2/1 United is doing away with the perk for Global Services, 1K and Platinum members that provided a payment code for the $100 application fee for Global Entry, so today is the last day to request that perk.  While I haven’t tried this out myself, I have read that in practice the code will work to pay for someone else’s application (in case yours is not yet up for renewal), though that is not the intended use.

If you need more info, here is a more detailed post outlining how to request the payment code.

Last Day to Change Your Amex Platinum Airline Selection for 2015:

If you want to change the airline you have selected for your 2015 Amex Platinum $200 fee credit, then today is the last day you can switch.  Here is a post on how I used that perk to save $200 on United Airlines, as well as some tips on how to choose which airline makes the most sense for you (it may not be the one you fly most frequently).

Have a great weekend!

  1. Remembered about Amex airline selection, just did my Amex MR–>BA, but forgot about IGH Into the Night choice. Off to request nights, not points. Thx.

  2. I just did the IHG change and booked 2 nights at the Intercontinental Times Square! Thanks for the reminder. My account was on points so that would have been a huge loss.

  3. FYI on the United 1K Global Entry code:

It basically gives you a virtual MasterCard that is valid for 6 months up to $100. It can be used for any transaction on the GOES site (Global Entry, PreCheck, APEC, NEXUS, etc) for yourself or someone else.

By all means request it now and you should still have 6 months time to decide what to use it on.
