How to Escape Winter and Get to Sunshine Using Miles ASAP!

Y’all, this winter has been nasty for much of the country.  I probably don’t need to tell you that, and being from Texas we haven’t had to live through shoveling snow as high as our house ourselves, but I sure have seen those bone chilling images and I shiver for you!  Heck, the weather in my hometown isn’t even winning awards today in the 30’s and raining.

I’m sure there are some folks out there that really like winter, but it takes a hearty soul to like that too much winter for too long.  So, if you have had it and need some sunshine, let me be a small part of the inspiration to get the heck out of town.

Seriously, how does this sunset we had in Jamaica two days ago look?  If you have some miles, you can have that sunset, too.

You live in the New York area?  There are nonstop flights using United miles (or other Star Alliance programs) to Montego Bay tomorrow.

You live in the Chicago area?  There is a nonstop flight to Honolulu using United miles (or other Star Alliance programs) available Friday, and connecting flights available throughout the week.

Hawaii Award Flights

You live in Boston?  You can fly using American Airlines miles (or other OneWorld partners) nonstop to Miami tomorrow.

Don’t want to get hit with last minute booking fees?  Just look to programs like British Airways Avios that don’t have them.  Here is the Boston – Miami American Airlines operated flight for tomorrow available for just 10,000 Avios and no last minute booking fee!  If you don’t have any Avios, remember you can transfer points in from Chase Ultimate Rewards and Amex Membership Rewards at a 1:1 ratio.

I could go on and on with available flights or hotels, but my point is you don’t have to shiver and suffer.  Even a couple days of sunshine can recharge your reserves until spring arrives.  Miles and points can be used for those “extravagances” that our budgets don’t allow.  I know life is much more complicated with jobs, kids, and responsibilities that won’t necessarily make it possible to really book a trip today and leave tomorrow, but maybe just knowing that is possible will help…and perhaps you can find a weekend that works for a quick getaway in the very near future!

Anyone making an escape plan from winter to the warm sun?

  1. Definitely agree! Just escaped Boston on Friday and am now enjoying similar beautiful sunsets at the Andaz Maui. Decided to stay in Hawaii for 10 days and then head to LA for a while. Hoping things improve soon for everyone back in Boston and really hoping they improve by the time I get home in 3 weeks.

The 20% rebate on Hyatt stays is a really nice incentive to redeem tons of Hyatt points.
