Last month it came out that Hilton HHonors would be awarding 1,000 bonus points if you changed your password.  However, they ended up not being quite ready at that time, but they are now ready to go!  To make accounts more secure, they are requiring all members to update their passwords away from a pin number and to a 8 character password by April 1, but if you do it by March 25th you get 1,000 bonus HHonors points!

As posted on Flyertalk:

Okay FlyerTalkers, it’s time to update your passwords and, as promised, you’ll get 1,000 Bonus Points for doing it by March 25!

Since we always want to make sure you have a safe and secure experience, we’re asking you to change your password as part of a new way to login to your account.

Your password must be updated by April 1, but the sooner the better – so we’re offering 1,000 Bonus Points if you change your password now! If you change your password starting today or by March 25 you will receive 1,000 Bonus Points.

As part of this update, we created new guidelines to make sure your password is a bit stronger.

Here’s what you need to know to get started…

Visit the Personal Information section in your account profile by logging in with your current credentials, and then select “Change Password.”

Your new password must be at least 8 characters, contain at least 1 upper case letter, and contain at least 1 number or 1 special character.

Remember to choose a unique password and update it at least every three to six months to ensure maximum security.

This is a great way not only to make your HHonors account more secure, but earn 1,000 easy bonus points in the process.  If you would like 1,000 free and easy Club Carlson hotel points, check out this post.

  1. Does that 1000 points will be counted as an official activity and extend the life of points for another 18 months ? I have few HHpoints which are about to expire and looking for a cheap / free ‘activity’ to extend them

  2. @TomJ – Not sure what your “about to expire” time frame is. So depending how close this is, you have different options, some are better than others. The Hhonors website shows you can buy points (fastest), exchange points, shop to earn points, etc. You just need to have some activity. However I think the best way is just to hold one of the two no annual fee cards. Either the American Express HHonors Card or the Citi HHonors Visa Signature Card. Both come with a sign-up bonus for a low initial spend, and no annual fee. IMO I like the the Amex card. There are a decent amount of American Express Offers throughout the year that will save you money.
