Club Carlson has left a bit of a bad taste in many of our mouths due to the major upcoming changes to the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card and the elimination of the “last award night free” benefit.  However, they are far from finished with handing out points like 75% off Easter Candy.

First, Club Carlson cardholders were given an offer to receive 30,000 bonus points after one eligible stay paid with the Club Carlson Visa between April 1 – August 31, 2015.

Then today a new promo was announced that awards triple points on eligible Club Carlson stays from April 6 – June 28, 2015.  You must register for the triple points promotion, so go ahead and do that now so you don’t accidentally forget.  Triple points will come to 60 points per dollar for eligible Club Carlson hotel stays.  If you pay with your Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card you then earn another 10 points per dollar on Club Carlson hotel charges for a potential total of 70 points per dollar!

Club Carlson Triple Points

There is also a promo for 1,000 bonus points by booking through their mobile app.

Some properties also offer a Mega Bonus of up to 10,000 points per night (there was another 5,000 point promo for those who booked by yesterday).

There are some very cheap Club Carlson properties out there, so let’s say you have an $80 all-in stay (which is 100% possible in many parts of the country).  That could come to around 5,600 points for the stay with the 3x promo + paying with the co-branded credit card + a 35% bonus of 560 points for having Gold status that comes via the credit card +1,000 points for booking via the app + 30,000 points for the cardholder one-time bonus.  That $80 one night hotel stay could feasibly earn you over 37,000 Club Carlson points, which is basically unmatched in any other program right now.

You have until June 1st to make use of the co-branded card’s last award night free benefit on future bookings, so you could turn around and get a pretty solid value out of those points if your stay happens in the relatively near future.  I’m not saying stacking all these promos is “mattress run worthy” in light of the coming deval to the card benefits, but it is pretty close if you have a plan for how you want to use the points.

  1. But the rates are highly inflated for this promo. I’ve decided that I’m pretty much done with CC. Will concentrate on Hyatt and SPG for the next couple of years.

    • For the 3x points promo? I haven’t seen separate rates for that promo. I have for the 10k mega points promo.

      • Oh…I’m highly confused now because the rate that I saw did say “mega-points.” So there are two promos running consecutively?

      • And you can often get extra points for paying more money (very often double points, for instance). I see as way to buy points without affecting your yearly CC limit.

  2. I see a Club Carlson stay opportunity that I can possibly claim Best Rate Guarantee to make the rate even lower. But do I still earn these big bonus points, if I file a Best Rate Guarantee and the Best Rate Guarantee is approved?

  3. A little off topic, but any update on whether stays in 2016 at the Radisson Aruba which is being sold will be honored? I’d like to make a speculative stay while I can get a free 2nd night, but would hate to have it cancelled after June 1 when I can no longer book a different 2nd night free stay.

    • I’ve heard honored at least through end of 2015. I haven’t yet heard rumors of what would happen to 2016 reservations (are they accepting point reservations for 2016 now?)

  4. I’ve been on the fence to book an AAA $80.99 room at a Carlson Inns in the ORD area. I haven’t seen the price waiver in the past 3 weeks. Wife and I both have the CC credit card, thus have automatic Gold status too. I think booking the first night for her on her CC, and the second night with mine is a winner for both of us. We both have tons of points, in excess of 250K each, but I think they can be put to use later, in a better way. JMO

    • We are about to have two cards, looking to two consecutive bonus nights, pay two for 4-night stay. Anyone done this without having to move to new room?

  5. Summer – Is the promo over that adds points progressively for up to 3 nights? That stack came to mind, but it must be over.

  6. To see DC cherry blossoms and visit with friend of 40 years. CC Visa holder, getting in on the Triple Points this weekend, once at around $100 which should give me around 37700 points. Then a second night at a splurge for business room, drinks, breakfast, etc. for around $300 for around 23000 points. And two separate bookings via mobile app for another 2k points. Am then booking two 2-night award stays for family in London in July. Not giving up on CC yet!

  7. Was just confirming rates for Budapest next month and saw where Carlson has just increased their rates there from 9k to 15K. Carlson just keeps getting worse. Imploding daily.
