I have some pretty great news today for those of you who like increased sign-up bonus for your rewards credit cards! The United MileagePlus Explorer Card has temporarily upped its public sign-up bonus from 30,000 miles to 50,000 miles after you spend $3,000 in the first three months of opening the account. This limited time bonus is only available from April 29th and June 2nd.
United MileagePlus® Explorer Card: 50,000 miles after $3,000 in spending in the first 3 months, 5,000 additional miles for authorized user who makes purchase in first 3 months
That is a very good deal, but there is an even better version out there that seems pretty easy to access simply by going to United.com to search for and price a flight. When the flight search results are displayed look to see if there is an offer for the same 50,000 bonus miles, but also a $50 statement credit! If that offer displays for you as it did for me then obviously that is the better offer to apply for! Thanks to Doctor of Credit for finding that version of the offer.
With both versions of the offer, in addition to the 50,000 sign-up bonus miles, you can earn an additional 5,000 miles by adding an authorized user who makes a purchase within 3 months of the account opening. This brings it to a potential 55,000 bonus United miles for getting and using this credit card! We have seen this offer available to select customers via targeted offers in the past, but I am so happy it is currently available publicly since United miles are still one of my favorite types of airline miles to collect and use due to good Star Alliance award availability and no fuel surcharges.
To give you some context of how far you can go using United miles, here are some quick saver award prices:
- 25,000 miles round trip economy in the lower 48 or Canada
- 35,000 miles round trip economy to Mexico or the Caribbean
- 45,000 miles round trip economy to Hawaii
- 57,500 one-way United Business Class to Europe
- 60,000 miles round trip economy to Europe
- 70,000 miles round trip economy to Japan
- 80,000 miles round trip economy to Australia
For those who fly United, the card also offers some pretty solid benefits such as free checked bag on United operated flights for you and a companion when you use the card to purchase tickets, priority boarding, and two United Club passes per year. Having the card also keeps your United miles from expiring, and you can earn 10,000 bonus United miles when you spend $25,000 on the card in a calendar year.
The United MileagePlus Explorer Card does not charge foreign transaction fees it is now has “an all new design and an embedded chip” for added security. There is a $0 introductory annual fee the first year, then $95 in subsequent years.
If you don’t already have this card, I would seriously consider pulling the trigger during this limited time offer as 50,000 United miles are conservatively worth at least $750 if you redeem your airline miles at a minimum of 1.5 cents per mile. The offer details indicate that “This new cardmember bonus offer is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of this consumer credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of this consumer credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this consumer credit card within the last 24 months.”
Anyone else excited about the idea of adding 50,000 United miles to their stash of miles and points?!
