I’m slowly becoming a Silvercar car rental convert/fangirl after hearing about them for well over a year, and using them myself for the first time recently (read all about the experience here).  If you aren’t familiar, Silvercar exclusively rents silver Audi A4s (in addition to the Audi Q5 SUVs in Denver).  These cars are equipped with free WiFi, free GPS, free satellite radio, free toll tracking (just pay for the tolls you rack up), and they will refuel the car at the going gas station rates + a $5 fee.  The great news is that Silvercar is now accepting reservations in Chicago for pick-ups beginning on June 12th!

Silver Car Chicago

Silvercar operates slightly differently from airport to airport (nuances I am still figuring out), but in general they offer a much higher level of service than traditional car rental companies, sometimes including pick-ups and drop-offs at the airport in your rental car.  What a huge difference that makes when traveling with kids!  They also don’t charge extra for car seats, and have nicer than average car seats and booster seats available.

The two main drawbacks I have found to Silvercar are limited locations and sometimes higher than average rental prices, though don’t automatically assume they are pricier.  The reason I have only recently used them for the first time is simply that I haven’t needed a car in the locations they serve.  Those locations include: Austin, Dallas Love, Dallas DFW, Denver, Ft. Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix, San Francisco, and now Chicago.  I’m thrilled they are expanding their locations, and they are often offering pretty decent rates when you factor in available discounts and various sales they announce.

For their new Chicago location rates are launching at $59/day, but remember you can use a $50 coupon code on two-day rentals to really drop that rate – try FTU50.  New customers (and those who refer them) also get $25 in their Paypal account after the first rental if they are referred, making it even more economical to give them a try.

I go to Chicago from time to time, so am so happy to have this option for my next visit to the area.

  1. The thing that sounds so great about silver car (which I haven’t used yet), is that it just seems straightforward. I’m always psyching myself up for being on my toes to keep from being ripped off or tricked into paying some extra fee when I get a rental car. We will definitely try this out.
If they pick you up at the terminal that is a HUGE plus, too.
