After obliterating much of my United MileagePlus balance to book my family to Australia and New Zealand I am very much on the hunt to build it back up.  Without actually flying of course since I feel about eleventy billion months pregnant at the moment…

Today there was an offer in my inbox for 1,750 easy United miles that I think is worth sharing even though I’m not 100% sure if it is targeted or not.  The only targeted wording I noticed was that it was for United Cardmembers.  At the very least, you can be on the lookout for a similar offer since many of my family members seem to have received the same email.  The subject line of the email was “Exclusive offer for Cardmembers: Earn up to 1,750 award miles when you join and shop online with MyPoints®‏”.

The offer is via MyPoints.com and it awards 750 United miles just for completing the sign-up process and then another 1,000 miles if you make an eligible $25 purchase at an online retailer in the first 30 days. I’ve used MyPoints before and the gist of their service is that you earn points by doing things like shopping online that you can then convert to things like gift cards or airline miles. I don’t use them regularly, but I’ll happily sign-up and make a $25 purchase the next time I need to shop online at a retailer like Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Office Depot, Pottery Barn, Wag.com, and hundreds more in order to earn a total of 1,750 valuable United miles!

  1. My girlfriend also received this offer, even though she’s not a Mileage Plus cardholder.

Since we usually fly on awards from my account, this is a good way of extending the expiration date of her miles.

  2. Hi MP, sorry, unrelated question: Which airline/s would you use or recommend to travel from PDX to MCO (2-week stopover) then Southeast Asia (SIN) on first class? I have enough AS & AA miles for the trip, thanks!

    • I’m really not the expert on international first class but Singapore airlines would I’m sure be great. Cathay would also be great. Other choices too but I would somewhat let availability be your guide.

  3. I had a MyPoints ago years ago that awarded UA miles. Am I ineligible for this offer? Not sure if they track you by account number or by email address. It was before the merger with Continental, which means the UA number they had is now replaced by my vintage merged CO number. Thanks.

    • Billy, I’m not sure but I signed up with a new email address and everything seemed to go through fine.

  4. I used your link and went through the sign-up steps and ultimately received an email that said I would receive the 750 points. There is some wording which says “Offer valid for recipients of this mailing only” so we’ll see what happens. I’ll buy something >$25 to try for the extra 1,000. Thanks for the link!

    • Erin, we booked via United and paid 80k for one-way first class and 70k for one-way business class.

      • thanks for getting back to me, i am new to this. did you book the flight home and pay for that out of pocket?
