This morning I posted about the SPG summer promo that starts today and runs through August 31st.  That is a global promo that awards 1,000 bonus points on all eligible two-night or longer stays that include a weekend night.  It’s not super exciting, but it’s better than nothing (which is what some chains have given us thus far this summer).

However, it actually isn’t the best SPG promo out this summer.  The better promo for some is called Sheraton Free Weekends and it will run from July 9 – September 30, 2015.  It’s touted as the “richest Sheraton focused SPG promo in the history of the program”.  What’s really great is that it will stack with the 1,000 point SPG summer promo, too!

The way this Sheraton promo works is that you earn a free Sheraton weekend night for every five eligible Sheraton nights you stay from July 9 – September 30, 2015.  You can earn up to 3 award nights to stay at any Sheraton hotel or resort around the world by December 13, 2015.  They award nights will work just like regular points reservations in that there are no blackout dates – they are valid any night that has standard rooms available for sale with cash.

You can go ahead and make eligible Sheraton bookings now, but registration won’t be open until July 9th (I’ll post to remind you to register on that day).

I know that Sheraton is not considered a luxury SPG brand the way that St. Regis or even Westin might be considered, but there are some nice Sheraton properties out there.  A few examples of some higher category Sheratons where you might want to use your award nights are:

Category 7:

  • Cervo Hotel, Costa Smeralda Resort

Category 6:

  • Sheraton Waikiki
  • Sheraton Bijao Beach Resort
  • Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa
Sheraton Waikiki

Category 5:

  • Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire
  • Sheraton Boston Hotel
  • Sheraton Princess Kaiulani
  • Sheraton Kauai Resort
  • Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa
  • Sheraton Tribeca New York Hotel
  • Sheraton Steamboat Resort
  • Sheraton Zurich Hotel
  • Sheraton Tel Aviv Hotel
  • Sheraton Melbourne Hotel
  • Sheraton Mirage Resort & Spa Gold Coast

There are many more solid Sheraton hotel and resort properties out there as well, so you can head to their website and start strategizing if you have some nights this summer that you can book at a Sheraton property!

    • And…apparently I need to work on my reading comprehension skills. I see where it is 5 nights at a Sheraton to qualify for each free night. Thanks for posting!

    • Jeff, full terms and conditions aren’t out yet, but 5 eligible nights at a Sheraton = one award weekend night. I imagine eligible night will mean paid stay booked directly with SPG (not travelocity, orbitz, etc) and not an award or cash and points night.

  1. Just an FYI…the Sheraton Waikiki is just okay.

To go through the effort and expense of stays in order to get a free night on a weekend is great, my advice is don’t waste it at the Sheraton Waikiki, the Sheraton Maui is much better. Sheraton Waikiki is extremely crowded. The pool, common areas, beach, it is wall to wall people. Go to Maui and enjoy Black Rock instead.

  2. The Sheraton Port Douglas is badly in need of a renovation project – it’s stuck in the 80s, but the Sheraton Kuta (Bali) is quite nice with fantastic service and I hate to “reveal” this but the Sheraton Hua Hin (Thailand) is a totally awesome, family-friendly resort. Unfortunately for my family, the resort’s popularity seems to be growing because room rates keep rising. I’m afraid it will jump a category soon.
