I am a big time planner by nature, but operating in the world of kid’s, school schedules, award availability issues, etc. only reinforces my advance planning hard-wiring.  I love to plan and book many trips roughly a year in advance, and really often have outlines in mind of where we will go for at least the next two years.  Yes, I’m perhaps a little crazy, but it works for us…

While many traditional US airlines allow booking up to roughly 11 months in advance, many hotel programs let you book starting at 12 months out – and some, like SPG and Club Carlson, allow you to go further out than that.  This means that for some trips you might have the hotel reservation secured (hopefully on points) before you have the flights locked in.  Typically hotels allow for penalty free changes or points refunds until much closer to the travel date (though always double check), so it is often not a huge pain adjust those reservations if needed.

Until pretty recently the furthest out you could book Hyatt reservations online was 12 months in advance.  You could get reservations 13 months in advance if you called to book over the phone, but for those of us who operate primarily in an online world, it required extra work to go beyond 12 months.

However, thanks to this Flyertalk thread, I see that you can now book up to 13 months in advance online.  This means if there is a special Hyatt resort or hotel you want to lock in for the 4th of July weekend 2016 (like Grand Hyatt Washington DC or the Grand Hyatt Kauai shown above), you can go for it online!  With award availability being as tight as I’ve seen it this summer, it actually isn’t a horrible plan to lock in a contingency plan or two for next summer!

Book Hyatt Stays in Advance

This isn’t exactly a game changer, but it might help a few of you easily lock in some award reservations before others think to book.  Also, if you were one who already knew to call in and book 13 months out, you now can do the same thing online.

  1. Thank you for posting this! We just reserved 3 nights at Hyatt Lost Pines for next summer. I even called the resort to ask if my 3rd child can sleep on the floor of a 2-Queen bed room, and they said yes! 🙂

  2. Can you book in advance if you haven’t yet received your free Hyatt nights? Or do you have to wait for those to be in your account first.
