In addition to lots of fireworks and red, white, and blue being on display over the 4th of July weekend, there are also lots of sales happening in the retail world. As retailers compete for your cash, the online miles and points portals often up the mileage payouts at some retailers to entice you to make your purchases using their portal. This means increased mileage payouts up to 10x miles at many popular retailers this weekend!
This means if you spent $100 on a retailer offering 10x miles via a mileage portal you would earn 1,000 airline miles for a purchase you were going to make anyway, which is great! This is on top of whatever miles or points the credit card you use will offer. You can often stack coupon codes, free shipping, or in-store pick-up on top of the points or miles earned for shopping through a portal, but that isn’t always the case. I recommend getting the best deal possible for an item first, and then worry about the miles and points second. Usually you can do both at the same time.
Here is a sampling of some of the higher than average payouts currently available.
Dell Home 5x
Kohl’s 4x (this stacks with the 3rd quarter 5x Kohl’s bonus via the Chase Freedom®)
Note that the rates for some retailers will be lower if you don’t have a United MileagePlus® Explorer Card or other co-branded United card.
Ashley Furniture 6x
Columbia Sportswear 9x
Kohl’s 5x (this stacks with the 3rd quarter 5x Kohl’s bonus via the Chase Freedom®)
Sunglass Hut 10x
If pure cash back is more your style right now, Ebates is offering “double cash back” at many retailers this weekend. Before making any substantial online purchase I would take a look at Cashback Monitor and compare the payout rates from many portals at once.
Looking forward, I expect that as we inch toward “Back to School Shopping” that we will see increased mileage payouts from related clothing, shoe, and school supply retailers and likely even some site-wide bonus miles promos from the various portals.
Have you had any big payouts from doing your shopping online recently?
