Rocketmiles is a company that has been around for a few years, but it has been a while since I wrote about them so I thought I’d share details about a good promo they are running right now.  Essentially, Rocketmiles is a site that allows you to earn airline miles for your hotel bookings – and in some cases you can earn a substantial number of airline miles.

Recently I noticed an email in my inbox that awards 5,000 bonus United miles on your first Rocketmiles reservation in addition ton the regular 1,000 – 5,000 miles per night that are normally earned for the reservation.  The offer is for those who use a United co-branded credit card such as the United MileagePlus® Explorer Card to pay for the stay.

Rocketmiles doesn’t offer reservations at every hotel, but there is often a large assortment of properties ranging from large chains to smaller independent properties.  Keep in mind that since your reservation will be made via this third-party site, you probably won’t earn hotel points and may or may not have elite perks honored (though elite benefits are often honored with many chains).  However, with 6,000 – 9,000 miles on the line for a one night reservation, it can be worth it to book via Rocketmiles even if you missing out on earning a few hotel points.

As always compare prices and make sure you aren’t overpaying for your reservation, but paying a few extra dollars to earn 6,000 – 9,000 United miles may be worth it!  Have you used Rocketmiles for any of your hotel reservations?

  1. I have a southwest premier card and they have the same offer for southwest. This may be with many of their partners co-branded credit cards.

  2. If you are new to Rocketmiles (and you have to be to get the 5,000 mile bonus), then make sure you sign up using the Flyertalk conga line for an extra 2,000 miles. You’ll get 1,000 miles by using the referral code of the person in front of you, and another 1,000 when the person behind you uses your referral code. If you are lucky like I was, you might get a couple of extra people using your referral code who don’t join the conga (an extra 1,000 miles per).

Easiest miles I ever earned, though you have to wait for the people behind you to actually complete their stay to get those miles. I had to pay about 5 bucks over the going rate, but it was well worth it. I think I ended up with 7,000 miles (my bonus was only 3,000 but I got 1,000 for the stay, 1,000 for the person in front of me, and 3,000 for the people who used my referral).

Also, you can choose to put the referral bonus miles into a different airline program than United if you wish.

Go to flyertalk.com home page and search for the words Rocketmiles and conga.

  3. Does the referral bonus stack with the new member bonus offers such as the United MileagePlus one (https://www.rocketmiles.com/mp)? In other words if I sign up through a referral link (for the 1k bonus) and then book and complete the stay through the United link (for the 5k bonus) will I get both? The language for the United offer (and similar offers such as Air Berlin, etc.) suggests that the offers cannot be combined: “This promotional offer cannot be combined with any other offers, including a sign-up from referral bonus.” Can someone confirm that they were able to get both bonuses OR that they were only able to get one but not both?
