I hope you are having a great weekend – before Monday rolls around I wanted to offer a final reminder that the temporarily increased 80,000 point Marriott Rewards credit card sign-up bonus is scheduled to end tomorrow, August 31, 2015.

Marriott Rewards® Premier Credit Card: 80,000 points after spending $3,000 in purchases in first 3 months, $85 annual fee

Marriott Rewards 80000

For those who might have had this card in the past, the terms indicate the 80,000 bonus point offer is not available to either current cardmembers of this consumer credit card, or previous cardmembers of this consumer credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this consumer credit card within the last 24 months.

There is also a business version of this card that comes with a slightly higher annual fee, but the same increased bonus structure.

80,000 sign-up bonus points is a pretty hefty increase over the 50,000 point regular offer!

Use 80,000 Bonus Points at Over 4,000 Properties Around the World:

For those not familiar, Marriott Reward nights start at just 6,000 points per night for a Category 1 “PointSaver” night at somewhere like the TownePlace Suites Albuquerque Airport or Fairfield Inn Los Cabos and go up to Category 9 properties that are regularly 45,000 points per night London Marriott Hotel Park Lane,  The Cove Atlantis, Autograph Collection,  or Vail Marriott Mountain Resort.

I’ve written about value at both ends of the spectrum including How to Get 12 Award Nights Out of One Sign-Up Bonus and How I Would Use 80,000 Marriott Reward Points (including at a beautiful private island in the Caribbean).

If you only have the points from the card to work with, 80,000 points are enough for two nights at some very nice Category 8 property including ones like the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, the Marriott’s Mountain Valley Lodge at Breckenridge, or the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino.  Do keep in mind that both you and your spouse or legal partner can get the cards and combine points for a redemption – giving you a potential 160,000 points to work with in that case!

Benefits Beyond the Bonus Points:

The Marriott Rewards Premier Card of course does more than just provide an increased sign-up bonus, it also provide automatic Silver elite status to cardholders, provide one free night on every account anniversary at a Category 1-5 property, earns 5x points on Marriott charges, 2x points on airline tickets purchased directly with the airline, and at car rental agencies & restaurants, and 1x elsewhere.

The card also provides 15 credits toward your next elite membership level after account approval and every year after account anniversary plus one elite credit for every $3,000 spent on the card.

Don’t Forget Ritz Carlton Properties:

In addition to Marriott properties, you can also use your Marriott Rewards points at Ritz Carlton properties ranging from Tier 1 properties that start at 30,000 points per night such as The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner outside Washington DC to Tier 5 properties such as The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo and The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch that go for 70,000 points per night.

How to Stretch Your Marriott Rewards Points:

You can also spend up to 33% fewer points by looking for PointSaver properties.  Some current PointSaver opportunities include:

Just like with the Starwood Preferred Guest program, you can get the 5th award night free if you redeem points for a Marriott hotel for 5 nights or longer.  This even stacks with the PointSaver rates!

Marriott also has Hotels + Air packages that give you seven hotel award nights + bundles of airline miles for a set points price.  These can be very good deals if you have larger numbers of Marriott points to work with – see more details here.

If you decide to go for the 80,000 points Marriott Rewards® Premier Credit Card increased offer, be sure to read this post first and enjoy your 80,000 bonus points!

  1. After going back and forth, I ended up going after this offer. I have 12 nights coming up that I switched to Marriott. The card gave me silver and I did a challange for gold that will be complete next week. I am at the airport now and the card did not come in time for the trip! I guess I will use my Ink Bold.

  2. My husband tried applying for this card this evening. He entered all of his information, reached the “review and submit” page, and they system hung up and kept returning him to the “review and submit” page and he never received any sort of confirmation message that his application had been received. He took screen shots along the way. What’s the best way to follow up on this?
