In less than two weeks myself and hundreds of other miles and points newbies, old timers, and those in-between will be descending into Elk Grove Village, just a few miles from Chicago O’Hare for the annual “Chicago Seminars”.  The Chicago Seminars is an annual miles and points conference that goes from Friday night to Sunday late afternoon and plays host to lots of formal and informal discussions about airline miles, hotel points, credit cards, elite status, loyalty programs, and more during those three days.  Here is a write-up I did of the event a couple of years ago

Event: Chicago Seminars

Dates: October 16 – 18, 2015

Location: Holiday Inn Elk Grove Village

Cost: $100 for sessions and lunch

Tickets went on sale many months ago, but there are still some tickets left so I wanted to offer a reminder about the event in case it lines up with your schedule at the last minute to attend.  It is $100 for the weekend which includes the sessions and lunch at the hotel on Saturday and Sunday.  The sessions are held at the Holiday Inn Elk Grove, and I think the hotel is currently sold out for the conference dates, but there may be folks looking to transfer their rooms and/or event tickets on this Flyertalk thread.

There is an overflow hotel three miles away that carries the same rates as the host hotel of $84 for single occupancy with breakfast or $94 with double occupancy for breakfast.  You can get more info about either hotel booking option here.  There are also tons of other hotels in the area so you could select your chain-of-choice and earn or use points for the weekend stay.  Or, I know some who change properties each night looking to rack up stays in various programs!  If you are staying at the host hotel or another IHG property, make sure to sign-up for their fall promo!

As I have done the past few years, I will be presenting on Saturday morning with a session geared toward those who are beginners in the whole miles and points world.  The session focuses on some things you should be aware of before diving in too deep with this hobby.  I also plan to hang around as much as I can during the sessions on Saturday to chat miles and points, and hopefully learn a few new things myself!

  1. […] First timer I am a First timer to any of these seminars. I had thought about going earlier in the year but never pushed the register button. This morning I saw a reminder post on FB by Mommy Points that there was still time to register. After signing onto different airlines and hotel chains through Award Wallet for flights and room availability I ended up flying on United for 35k miles + $115.00 which is alot from MSP to ORD but cash price would have been $573. at this under 14 day reservation. Than I went and booked the backup hotel Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, for 30k points (last award available i think) and rooms are now selling for $144.00 a night. Anyway I am excited about joining in on this event and look forward to attending these sessions and meeting some of the travel writers that I have been following the last 2 1/2 years. 1. Summer- How can I get alerted about this event for next year? I just attended my first FTU Advanced in DFW last weekend and it was awesome. Would love to hear you speak on some advanced family travel focused topics. Is there a notification list that I could sign up on. I already follow your blog and enjoy it throughly.
