Update: The list is now live so get to booking!

A brand new IHG PointsBreaks list will go live this morning for bookings and stays from October 26, 2015 through January 31, 2016!  This is very exciting because if a hotel is on the PointBreaks list it can potentially be booked for just 5,000 IHG points per night instead of the regular points prices that can go as high as 50,000 points per night.

IHG PointBreaks

As you get ready for the list to go live this morning, remember that if you already have some IHG points in your account, you can also “buy” additional points at a cost of $0.007 each (for a total of about $35 per Point Breaks night) – check out this post by Million Mile Secrets for details on that method of obtaining IHG Rewards points.  You also can transfer the points in 1:1 from cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card if you are starting from 0 points, though that generally isn’t the most lucrative way to use Ultimate Reward points and in my experience isn’t an instant transfer.

The IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card is also a great way to build up points for future PointBreak lists.

There is no exact time that the list goes live for booking, but it has been happening in the morning somewhere around 8AM – 10AM Central.  Typically the properties are available for booking before the list is actually live.  This Flyertalk forum keeps a close eye on the list, so they are a great resource as well.

As always the PointBreaks list is “eclectic” and whether or not a property will work for you for fall/winter travel is really just luck of the draw.  Still, it is always worth a look.  On this list you can find options like InterContinental Cairo Semiramis – Egypt, the Holiday Inn Bali Benoa – IndonesiaHoliday Inn Express Denver SouthHoliday Inn Chicago O’Hare Airport AreaCrowne Plaza Kansas City – Overland ParkHoliday Inn Express Washington DC N-Silver SpringHoliday Inn Express Albuquerque N – BernalilloStaybridge Suites RenoHoliday Inn The Lodge at Running Y Ranch, and the Holiday Inn Express Price.

I could see any of those potentially being big wins for travelers at just 5,000 points per night!  They may or may not be the exact location or property type you are after, but if you can make them work for the equivalent of around $35/night then you will likely come out a big winner!

Below is the “preview list” of properties, but given how long the preview list is I expect the real list to be very, very similar.

    • Kira, I’m not sure if there are on this specific list or not. I know some are at least 35k, but would have to do some digging to see more than that.

    • IMHO, it’s the location that should determine the hotel used and not the hotel determining the location. At 5000/night, it’s a bargain no matter where you stay, whether it’s 15K or 50K/night normally . I use my renewal free night certificate for upscale stays at the hotel and location of my choice, normally the Intercontinental brand. As always, YMMV ——-

  1. Bali hotel shows “no award availability” the entire months of Nov, Dec, and Jan…what a deal. I find this hard to believe

    • Some go very quickly. I was able to find availability there as soon as list opened and included a screen shot in post, but I’m not surprised that it dried up quickly.

  2. I booked the The Lodge at Eagle Crest in Bend, OR (area) for Thanksgiving weekend. This is a great property timeshare-style property we love visiting. It’s a great deal if you live in the PNW.
