I’m seriously like a six-year-old on the night before Christmas excited, and you will be too if you are a ski lover with SPG points. Yesterday I wrote about two “under the radar” SPG properties that were good values during the Colorado ski season and there were a couple of great comments on that post, including one from “Kim” who told me the best news of the week…or month…or longer.
Drumroll…..it looks like a SPG property is coming to Telluride!! I repeat, it looks like a SPG franchised property is coming to Telluride! Telluride is my family’s absolutely favorite Colorado town. Telluride is where I hoped/hope to one day rent a home and celebrate the holidays together with extended family, but that has been seriously cost prohibitive so it has remained on the “wish list”.
Telluride has so much history with our family that both of my paternal grandparents (Grandpa Points’ parents) have had their ashes scattered near there. It is just the most perfect, scenic, historic, fantastic town. We just haven’t been able to really afford to visit Telluride nearly as frequently as we have wished since there aren’t really points friendly lodging options in that area.
However, it seems that next winter(ish) there will be a roughly 50-ish room SPG Luxury Collection property opening on the east end of town named Hotel Ajax. One of the things that makes Telluride still feel so special is likely the strong Historic and Architectural Review Commission, but that is likely what will also make this property a little challenging to design and complete. Still, I am beyond excited for this property and I can all but promise I will be doing everything within my power to be there as close to opening as possible to enjoy this amazing town and some (hopefully) amazing skiing while leveraging and/or earning SPG points.
Here are some images/renderings from Telluride realtor Teddy Errico (@teddyerrico) from Twitter.
Time to seriously amp up SPG points earnings on the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express because I’m sure this property won’t be on the cheaper end of the points spectrum! I can’t wait to lay eyes on this gorgeous part of the country again!
