Here in the South school is already almost out for the year, and that means summer vacation is about to start up. That also means that those of us that like to use miles and points for family summer adventures need to be at the ready to book summer 2017 trips since many airlines let you book awards beginning 11 months in advance, and hotels can have booking windows that are even wider than that.

Book June 2017 Hyatt Award Nights Now

In fact, the specific reminder I want to offer today is for Hyatt Gold Passport bookings since their booking window is open a handy 13 months in advance. This extra month over the one year mark is super important if you are trying to book award rooms at popular family resorts – and even more important if you are trying to snag the cash and points awards that are sometimes available!

As an example, if you want to go to my beloved Hyatt Lost Pines located outside of Austin the second weekend in June of this year you can forgetaboutit as the hotel is currently showing as sold out or dollars or points. However, if you want to go ahead and line up the second weekend of June in 2017, you can currently do so for 20,000 points per night instead of the $400ish++ nightly rates for that peak weekend. The longer you wait the greater the likelihood that the standard rooms and award nights will be gone.

Always read the fine print, but most of the time you can cancel these way-in-advance reservations until a few days or weeks before, so there really is very little to lose by locking something up while it is still there and available. If life happens and plans change then just adjust your reservations accordingly.

So, even though it is now only May 2016 I recommend making your June 2017 Hyatt award bookings now, especially if you are eyeing some popular summer travel resorts!

Anyone else already know what Hyatt properties they hope to take their family to next summer?

  1. I am eyeing Andaz Maui but no award room for sat 6/10/17 and grab a cash+point rate for 6/11/17. Not sure if I would end up staying here because I need two nights prior to 5 nights at the Westin. I plan to look at Grand Wailea when their schedule opens in a month. Would consider Marriott Wailea but I heard it doesn’t have a beach there? Closer to home, I have booked Andaz Napa for memorial weekend 2017, maybe BottleRock Napa concert will be held the same weekend again!

    • Just got back from Maui. Stayed at the Marriott Wailea for 3 nights, Hyatt regency for 2 then grand Wailea for our last 2. The Marriott does not have a sand beach directly in front of it but there are nice beaches to both the left and right of the Marriott. Very short walk…literally right next door! We had a great time snorkeling at the Marriott. Spend several hours swimming with 2 green sea turtles right on the beach to the right. Hyatt regency was my favorite but the Marriott was great! Would stay again for sure. There is a large coral reef area in front of the grand Wailea making snorkeling more difficult.

      • For our anniversary we would be booking our first big trip using miles/points and we have been debating which hotel to get at maui and so far the one we keep checking is the hyatt. Reading your comment confirms the hotel we should book for our anniversary, ty so much..

  2. I just booked a last minute trip to San Francisco next week (extending a work trip into a mini vacation) and was able to get 1 night at the Hyatt Fisherman’s Wharf using Hyatt points + cash. This was my first time using points on hotels (from my chase sapphire preferred card)- previously I’ve used lots of southwest points (I have the companion pass) and avios once before, and was always intimidated to venture into hotel points as well but I’m glad I did and am looking forward to the trip! I called Hyatt to find the awards availability because nothing was showing up online and I wanted to exhaust all of my options before paying full price for anything. They were able to find the points+cash room that I couldn’t see online. Thanks for your guidance to make this trip possible and affordable!

  3. Maui Hyatt for Spring Break 2017. Booked the flight and hotel awards as soon as the calendar opened. Love that property and happy to be going back!
